It was Faleolo International Airport, in which you removed content without adequate explanation. It did, however, have the "newcomer task" tag, so was almost certainly a good faith edit. Have a good one! drdr150 Yell at me Spy on me 20:15, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Warning vandals of AIV reports

[edit]

Hello Drdr150. I noticed you warned a vandal that they were being reported to WP:AIV. This is actually unnecessary and may even be detrimental, as it introduces the vandal to a noticeboard page that they can then vandalize (in other words, don't give them ideas). At the very least, it goes against the spirit of denying recognition, as many vandals seek attention and enjoy receiving threats and warnings from others. Once a user vandalized past a Level 4 warning, it's best to report them to AIV and then leave it at that, without engaging with the vandal any further. There is consensus that alerting the vandal to AIV is counterproductive; see this April 2024 TfD, December 2023 TfD, and AIV talk page thread. Vandal fighting is a fun activity (I've been doing it for over a decade!), but at the end of the day, we don't want the vandals to find it as enjoyable as we do. :) —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 17:04, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Of course! I will improve that from now on. Thanks! I appreciate all that you do for this site. drdr150 Yell at me Spy on me 17:08, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Abusive e-mails?

[edit]

Hi, Drdr150. I read the section "Sending users emails for no reason" on DotesConks' page. If that user, or any user, has sent you objectionable e-mails, I recommend you to forward them to the Arbitration committee at arbcom-en@wikimedia.org with full headers and with a covering explanatory note (feel free to mention my name). This seems especially advisable since you and DotesConk seem to disagree about what was in the message(s) - DotesConk writes "So now you have resorted to lying about what I've said to make me look bad". WikiCup 2025 May newsletter

[edit]

The second round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 28 April at 23:59 UTC. To reiterate what we said in the previous newsletter, we are no longer disqualifying contestants based on how many points (now known as round points) they received. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. These tournament points are carried over between rounds, and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers at the end of each round. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned.

Round 2 was quite competitive. Four contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and eight scored more than 500 points (including one who has withdrawn). The following competitors scored at least 800 points:

In addition, we would like to recognize Generalissima (submissions) for her efforts; she scored 801 round points but withdrew before the end of the round.

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 13 featured articles, 20 featured lists, 4 featured-topic articles, 138 good articles, 7 good-topic articles, and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 19 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 300 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello, Drdr150, I can understand why you posted what you did, especially after going through a hard time of your own. I worked with Dotes when they were starting out here and I am shocked at how they changed over the past two months. I never guessed they would be so bitter and offensive. Even seeing them as a vandal and troll, it's hard to read harsh words, especially when you're going through a difficult period. But I wanted to affirm what Fathoms Below said, our general attitude towards trolls like them is "RBI", Revert, Block and Ignore. I hope that things are looking up for you now. Liz Read! Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

(Additionally, but not the main point of this message: ) Information icon You have recently made edits related to the Arab–Israeli conflict. This is a standard message to inform you that the Arab–Israeli conflict is a designated contentious topic. Additionally, editors must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert on the same page within 24 hours for pages within this topic. This message does not imply that there are any issues with your editing. For more information about the contentious topics system, please see Wikipedia:Contentious topics.

Hello Drdr150, regarding your edits to the article about Jack Hidary, please have a look at WP:BLPRESTORE, which prohibits restoring content to biographies of living people in case others have removed it in good faith. This may even be the case if the editors removing the content have a significant conflict of interest; they might still be acting in good faith. If you're 100% certain that you've been dealing with a malicious editor trying to damage the encyclopedia, then it's okay; else, please keep in mind that you are responsible for your actions and (legally) responsible for content you restore for any reason. Best regards, ~ ToBeFree (talk) 01:35, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!

[edit]

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email).
