Gender bias on Wikipedia reverted edit

[edit]

Hi! I wanted to ask about the revision I made that you reverted. I agree that my edit changed the meaning, but my revised wording seems to be more in line with what the source (linked for convenience) was saying. The implication that high-conflict editors are a minority on Wikipedia was not claimed by the source. Rather, the source poses the hypothetical that the openness of Wikipedia could invite a minority of high-conflict editors to affect the community. Would it be best to remove "(a minority)" altogether? Let me know what you think :) KikiFur (talk) 20:06, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Yes, upon review of the source, you're absolutely right, and the original text was incorrect. So put it back to your edit, I think it's more in line with the source. And to your credit, you did use an edit description, but If the edit description did explain a summary of what you'd just said, this wouldn't happen. Just consider that in future :) And P.S, if you're interested in dealing with Gender bias on Wikipedia, take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red. It's a project I'm involved in and they do some great work, always open to new contributors. Best of luck! Edlectro28 (talk) 20:17, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay, cool, I'll take care of it now :) I'll keep the edit summary in mind for the future; I was trying to keep it brief and left out too many details in the process. I'll check out Women in Red too, thank you for the recommendation! KikiFur (talk) 20:45, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Alive check

dead? on break? please answer. Jq ☞ (c) 18:25, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Unwell. I had an MRI the other week which showed the tumor had come back, and they’d said of it reappeared I’d be dead so you can imagine what is imminent. A matter of weeks I’d think. My friend User:Sunshinezguy will confirm when I do pass. Thanks for asking, all the best. ~2026-52069-91 (talk) 18:29, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Update on Ed

[edit]

Hi everyone. I said I’d post an update when Edlectro (Ed) died. He hasn’t yet, but his health has worsened recently, his liver function is worsening. That’s where his tumour came back, and I guess his organs are starting to shut down. He’s from Vancouver, but has lived in the UK for over ten years, and It’s odd but I’m certainly happy that as of his wishes, it’s been arranged for him to be flown back to Canada for his final period of life (<2 weeks, I’d say). There he can be surrounded by family as he goes, and be at home. Thanks for everything. This was nice for him to do for the final months of his life, and I’d like to say I know it ended badly, but as you can imagine he was seriously struggling. I’ll post a proper obituary when I confirm his passing. Thanks again. Sunshinezguy (talk) 00:40, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

So long, and thanks for all the fish. I’m glad we got to have him for the time we got. <3 Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 01:00, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I am so sorry to hear about this. I will be sure to think about you all in my good thoughts. Dragonhawk12 (talk) (Guestbook) (Wikicats) 01:40, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to hear about this, even though I didn't know him very much. I'm happy he at least got to return back to Canada to see his family one last time. I've been thinking about him lately. <3 ‮qJ ☞ (c) 00:47, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Bringing Up Buster

[edit]

@Sunshinezgy: do you know if Ed wants a DYK for Bringing Up Buster? If/when it passes, does he want a topicon on his userpage? Thanks. Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 02:00, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Yes, I think he probably would. Adding the icon to his userpage would be appreciated, and for GA. Thanks for taking that article over by the way, Sunshinezguy (talk) 02:03, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes for DYK? Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 02:07, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes. Thanks Sunshinezguy (talk) 02:08, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Gotcha. Anything in mind that he’d like? My guess would be something about Buster “swearing” the alphabet. Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 02:09, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I’d agree that’s the most interesting part, likeliest candidate, would make sense. Thanks Sunshinezguy (talk) 02:11, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Sunshinezguy: Any DYK for key decisions? If so, feel free to handle it as an envoy of Ed. Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 00:21, 14 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Would be good, not as clear what to do here though. Maybe the Aristotle bit? Or Minnelli doing the vertigo scenes herself, as she is Hollywood royalty, could be an intriguing bit for a reader who wouldn’t think someone as famous as her would be willing to do that kind of slapstick. Sunshinezguy (talk) 00:27, 14 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I’m indifferent to it. Also, I hope you stay on-wiki, even if it’s slow at first. Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 01:01, 14 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Latch Wales

[edit]

On 15 October 2026, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Latch Wales, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a 14-year-old from Aberystwyth shaved his head to raise money for Latch Wales in support of a friend with kidney cancer? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Latch Wales. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (Latch Wales), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.
