Question from Jay John Mulama (11:39, 15 October 2025)

[edit]

Hello can I edit anything and what are the guides --Jay John Mulama (talk) 11:39, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jay John Mulama, thanks for reaching out. Help:Introduction has a good overview and welcome to Wikipedia. As for what you can edit, most articles are unprotected but some contentious topics may have certain restrictions. Please let me know if you have any more questions! Question from Arimslu (18:44, 15 October 2025)

[edit]

Hey! This is Arimslu! I'm new here, and my main goal as of right now is to update wiki pages for shows to include all their opening and ending themes, as I myself have had issues finding them, and would like to make it easier for others in the future. Right now, however, I'm having another issue. I want to add an external link to the wiki page for "Yamishibai: Japanese Horror Stories", but every time I try, it only adds as a "potential template". Do you know how to fix this? I copied the code exactly from the previous external link, only changing the title, link, and name. --Arimslu (talk) 18:44, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Arimslu, it looks like it's displaying correctly and you figured it out! If you want to make generic external links, you can use single brackets "[ ]" around a link. To change how it displays, add a space after the link and then the text to show: like this. Let me know if you have any other questions! Fritzmann (message me) 12:59, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Syzygies33 (01:17, 17 October 2025)

[edit]

Hi, I'm new to this and I may need some help/real feedback. I have submitted a first page (about a deceased Romanian mathematician) with what I thought being reliable references to support the text of the submitted page. It is true that some references are in Romanian (there is also a Romanian wikipedia page for the same mathematician, but being new here I'm not allowed to provide a Wikipedia translation for it). I do not have a lot of experience in building wikipedia pages, so any constructive help, including improving the article, would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance! --Syzygies33 (talk) 01:17, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

My recent article was declined but I appreciated the feedback since it was my first. How do I revise my submission or do I start again? --Drdanikatynes (talk) 17:00, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drdanikatynes, sorry for my delay in replying. You can continue to edit the article at Draft:ISO Metrik Device! Once it is ready, you just hit the blue "resubmit" button in the Submission Declined box. Let me know if you need any help with the revisions! [edit]

Sorry, me again, I tried to publish with suggested edits and I received a "Warning: This page should probably be moved to the Draft namespace." I tried to move to the draft space but didn't have permissions. Can you advise on how to go the correct route? --Drdanikatynes (talk) 17:10, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Fritzmann2002, I have been working a lot on Draft:Thanasis Deligiannis, rewriting it and incorporating all sources I had gathered through the past months. Would you have time to have a look at it? Any feedback would be helpful before submitting it. Kamien Case (talk) 23:15, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Kamien Case I can take another look at it this week if you'd like. I just wanted to ask before I start, is it autobiographical? I noticed some people thought so on the talk page, and that would mean it should receive much more scrutiny and is unlikely to be published. Either way I'll still give it a look. Fritzmann (message me) 00:26, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Fritzmann2002, thanks for following up. I’ll disclose a COI as the subject of the article. The current draft is based on independent sources, written to comply with WP:NPOV and WP:V, as much as possible for a beginner editor. I have received feedback from various editors here, the main issue was notability and I was strongly advised to add review quotes/sources. I have kept institutional sources for fact checking. However, this has enlarged the article and I am not sure it was the right way after all. I would like to step aside and invite independent editors to work on it and re-write what needs to be re-written or re-sourced, and potentially submitting it. Any advice on how to proceed would be of help, as this has been a year-long process of getting to know how to write an article. Kamien Case (talk) 13:41, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from AfiqDenis (06:31, 25 October 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I want to ask about when, how and why to edit an article. And what if my edit wrong, did I can get punish for it or what happens. Thanks for your time and your guidance. --AfiqDenis (talk) 06:31, 25 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AfiqDenis and thanks for your question! I recommend you start with the Introduction to Wikipedia, but in short: you can edit when you feel you can make an improvement to an article by clicking the "edit" button on the top of each page. Why you do so is up to you, but we assume all editors work in good faith. I edit because I find it enjoyable and it keeps my reading, writing, and researching skills sharp. If you do not follow guidelines but are editing in good faith, just expect someone to let you know and fix your mistake. It takes a long time to learn and most people are understanding, it a bit brusque. If you repeatedly disregard the rules or are being disruptive, you may be temporarily or permanently banned. Let me know if you need further help! Fritzmann (message me) 00:29, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sergggs16 (03:03, 26 October 2025)

[edit]

Hey, I have a PDF file that I want to use as a source for a wiki article, but I’m not sure how to turn it into a proper citation. --Sergggs16 (talk) 03:03, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sergggs16, what kind of reference is it? If it is a book or journal article, you can simply cite it as such without creating a link. I can give you a more detailed explanation if I know what kind of material it is. Fritzmann (message me) 00:31, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if you'd like more detailed guidance or assistance with your edits on Prestonsburg, Kentucky, bus crash just let me know. It's hard to get started with all the rules and guidelines you may not be aware of. Fritzmann (message me) 00:34, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Clvnbrtt9999 (13:59, 29 October 2025)

[edit]

Hey, I’m a professional footballer and I’m trying to create my own Wikipedia page. Is that a bad idea?

What do you recommend? --Clvnbrtt9999 (talk) 13:59, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Clvnbrtt9999, thanks for reaching out! Wikipedia generally discourages autobiographies. Articles need to be neutral and not push a point of view, which is almost impossible to do if you are writing about yourself. If you really desire an article about yourself (there are a lot of cons - you don't get to control what gets written), my recommendation would be to find reliable sources about you, and leave a polite message at the football WikiProject. Someone may pick up the article from there, but keep in mind that everyone here is a volunteer, so it might not happen. Let me know if you have any more questions! Administrator Elections - Call for Candidates

[edit]

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • November 25 – December 1 - Call for candidates
  • December 4–8 - Discussion phase
  • December 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for admin elections candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
  • The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Administrator Elections - Discussion Phase

[edit]

The discussion phase of the December 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • Dec 4–8 - Discussion phase (we are here)
  • Dec 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Discussion phase.

On December 9, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which typically lasts between a couple days and a week. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate who has not been recalled must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. A candidate that has been recalled must have at least 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Administrator Elections - Voting Phase

[edit]

The voting phase of the December 2025 administrator elections has started and will continue until Dec 15 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • Dec 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • Scrutineering phase

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!

[edit]

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
