Hi! Question about hoax

Hi, I saw this User talk:Elihu Esparza#Speedy deletion nomination of List of 1948 box office number-one films in the United Kingdom where you and @Barry Wom were tagging all the articles for speedy deletion.

The user who created those just created this: List of 1954 box office number-one films in the United Kingdom

and I'm wondering what about it makes it a hoax? I don't know much about cinema. I was just suspicious about it when I clicked on it to review it, so checked his profile and found all of those, but can't work out what the hoax part is. Aesurias (talk) 00:23, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Aesurias: Hello- that would be a question for Barry Wom to answer, as I have no clue regarding those. My only warning on their talk page was a general disruptive editing warning, in regards to this edit and this edit of theirs that was completely breaking note(s) on these articles. I did a bit of research about it. The book source rarely mentions the UK, and discloses at the start that all of the ranks are 'estimates' as Box Office tracking was not commonplace at the time.

I don't want to find myself involved in an edit war, I'm just trying to help raise a few lower-impact articles a notch or two in detail and quality (I had worked quite a bit on Sniff 'n' the Tears a few years ago). Thanks for the tip about MOS:OVERLINK

Thanks for leaving the link to MOS:OVERLINK when you reverted my change to the Master Chef page. I had added the link thinking about it from a usability point-of-view so that someone could easily click on the judge's name if they were in the later seasons. It just seemed weird to see it linked earlier on the page, but not later. And I still do think that from a usability viewpoint, the link would be better so that a visitor doesn't have to scroll back up to earlier in the table when the judge's name is linked.

However, I do understand the need for the MOS and appreciate that. In all these years of editing I'd not run into the "OVERLINK" part of the MOS (or if I had, I don't remember it), so I appreciated the pointer. Thanks! - Dyork (talk) 16:47, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
