Your feedback

[edit]

Hi Panamitsu. You have provided feedback to me a couple of times recently, the most recent on the Talk page of the NZDF article. First let me say that I really admire the polite and erudite way that you give feedback. In my experience, your level of courtesy is quite rare on wikipedia. Clearly, I could learn from that.

However, I don't find your responses very helpful when it comes to the content of the dispute. For instance, in your most recent comment, you wrote, "Because the content is disputed, the onus is on you (ie me) to demonstrate that the text complies with the policies in question."

Here is the essence of the dispute. Traumnovelle 25 October 2025 wrote: "Its the implication in any readers head upon seeing such a sentence, this is explicitly what WP:SYNTH covers."

I replied:

"No its not. Let me put it even more simply for you.

You can justifiably remove statements that are not backed up by reliable sources.

You should not remove statements that are backed up by reliable sources - because you think that statement implies something other than what it actually says. It only becomes synth when an implication is explicitly stated (as if it were a fact) in the article - without a reliable source to back it up.

If wiki was based on what editors think a statement implies (even though a reliable source has been provided), anything on wikipedia could be deleted because an editor took offence to it - thinking it implied something else. Wiki is not based on vague implications in the readers mind. it is based on statements that are backed up by reliable sources. You need to get your head around this point."

If the onus is on me, how am I supposed to demonstrate that the text complies with the policies if experienced editors, such as yourself, do not indicate which way they are leaning on this issue. If Traumnovelle simply ignores every comment I make, input from other editors is required to suggest whose perspective is more in line with wiki policy. Apologies for my blunt reply but I tought you wanted to be helpful. Kiwimanic (talk) 21:24, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I haven't actually had a proper look at the sources to check if the content is original research or not, so I don't actualy lean on any side in this dispute. Politics is not something that interests me so I'm afraid I probably won't look much into it. ―Panamitsu (talk) 22:15, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I really need your help with this please. You say the onus is on me to solve this dispute - which is about wiki policy rather than politics. I am unable to resolve it unless experienced editors like yourself are willing to assist by examining the meaning of the wiki policy in dispute and coming down on one side or the other. Kiwimanic (talk) 03:24, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi I'm back for the day. I meant I'm not interested in articles about politics, including drug foundations, but I'll take a look. ―Panamitsu (talk) 03:39, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help with this. I really appreciate your calm, logical (and intelligent) approach. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kiwimanic (talkcontribs)

Hi Panamitsu. You tagged this article with {{Close paraphrasing}} but didn't provide an URL. Do you happen to remember what this article is paraphrasing from? — Tenshi! (Talk page) 00:14, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tenshi Hinanawi here are two examples from the lead. The text "New Zealand ended 2024 with its lowest per capita road death rate in over 100 years, according to provisional data" is a direct copy from this source which says "New Zealand ended 2024 with its lowest per capita road death rate in over 100 years, according to provisional data." While not as bad, the lead also says "In 2024, the provisional number of road deaths in New Zealand for the year stands at 289" which is similar to this source which says "The provisional number of road deaths in 2024 stands at 289". I'll add these examples to the talk page. ―Panamitsu (talk) 01:27, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

 — Amakuru (talk) 00:03, 6 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Amakuru you have been cursed because you're now on my talk page (even if by bot) and will be forced to suffer through some of my useless facts.
I thought that this greening the rubble hook was quite short so I decided to use Python to find the shortest did you know hooks that have ever been on the main page. Here are the top five with the length in characters (excluding the "that", punctuation and wikimarkup):
(12): "... that zero is even?"
(21): "... that people greened rubble?
(23): "... that metal can grow whiskers?"
(28): "... that infant teeth emerge in pairs?"
(28): "... that greeneyes are hermaphroditic?"
Below are extra fun facts because I'm a loser. Did you know...
"... that 'green' appears in two of the five shortest did you know hooks?"
"...that Wikipedia's did you know section never used to have spaces after the ellipses?"
Panamitsu (talk) 02:52, 6 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I tend to remember an even shorter one. I think it didn’t have the “that”. Theleekycauldron, was that your hook? Schwede66 03:10, 6 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
wadn't mine, but i think you have the shortest hook exactly backwards :)
theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 03:13, 6 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Haha that is really funny. I missed that one because I used the regex "^that(.*?)$" (after removing the ellipses) which didn't work with that hook because of the square brackets for the link.
I wonder if a hook that is just
"...?"
is possible or if it would be rejected. ―Panamitsu (talk) 05:11, 6 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
go for it!! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 07:31, 6 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Holidays!
Happy holidays! Your "creepy" winking Santa article had me remembering a time when I was a little kid, my family introduced the Santa Claus idea to me. I was terrified. I asked why they were letting a stranger sneak into our home in the middle of the night. They told that Santa had special powers and nobody could stop him. I did not sleep a wink. He might just be a creepy idea? Rjjiii (talk) 19:24, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
