[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. Use of "the" before stadium names
[edit]Would you please point me to the rule that requires a leading "the" before stadium names per your edit summary? Assadzadeh (talk) 17:35, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
- It’s not exactly a rule, it’s more that there is no hard and fast rule that says every stadium has to have or not have “the” before it. In the case of the Bernabeu Stadium, it needs “the”, like the Emirates Stadium or the Etihad Stadium. Some stadiums need “the”, some don’t. Sorry I can’t help you, you just need to know which is which. – PeeJay 17:38, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
- I think the problem is that it's subjective. For example, I've often seen Madison Square Garden referred to as "The Madison Square Garden", when in fact the leading "The" is not part of the name. So, based on your argument, there are other stadiums that need a leading "the" as well. Assadzadeh (talk) 17:54, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
- I looked into this further and Bernabéu Stadium states "The stadium, formerly known as the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, has now been officially renamed to simply Bernabéu" and lists its Spanish name as "El Bernabéu". So, based on this, "stadium" should be dropped altogether from the sentence in NFL International Series. Assadzadeh (talk) 19:30, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
