Thanks for joining in on the drive... it's fun, right? Don't forget to remove the "unreferenced" tag after you add a reference, or if the article still needs reference, change it to "more citations needed" . I went ahead and did that for Battrum. NPOV on Dinosaur emojis

[edit]

Is an absurd subject heading, and thanks for writing the article. I've made a few edits to better meet WP:IMPARTIAL in my eyes, and I wanted to give a space for you to comment on or question them if you saw fit. Feel free to revert this off your page otherwise. While I'm here, I wanted to raise that "note[d]" is part of MOS:SAID because it can imply something is true; see this discussion for elaboration. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | edits) 11:01, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Rollinginhisgrave, thanks for your message. I was unaware of the connotations of the term TERF and I think your rewrite is wonderful; thank you for doing it! I've went back in and made another edit, mostly as a copyedit. Let me know what you think.
Also, I appreciate the link to MOS:SAID, as I was mostly unaware of that formal guideline as well (although I understood it, I think). I'll be more careful with the words to watch in the future. Best, Staraction (talk | contribs) 23:15, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, I wish there were RSes thoroughly documenting both sides of this Internet battle. I was unable to find any for the gender-critical feminist/TERF side at all. If you are able to find any, please let me know! Staraction (talk | contribs) 23:47, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your copyedits look great. I know this subject area is dicey, and I totally get how sources may only exist on one side of the conflict, and I don't really have a good solution to dealing with those instances. WP:OPPONENT and WP:IMPARTIAL are certainly important to keep in mind, which dog whistle (see Dog whistle (politics)#Criticism), TERF, and putting in wikivoice that the trans community is attracted to "aspect[s] of falling into more than one category at once and...transformation through time" do not meet IMO. I think you're making the right call on changing the DYK hook; I wouldn't be comfortable putting "gender-critical feminists" on the main page without qualification. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | edits) 00:22, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @Rollinginhisgrave. If you're interested, here was my original thought process with some of these choices.
  • I knew that people described themselves as TERFs, but don't think I fully realized the connotations of the term while writing this. I also knew that some people take issue with the term gender-critical, so I chose the former. I'm seeing now how this is flawed, especially because TERF is used in a bit of a derogatory(?) way in the WBUR source.
  • Dog whistle probably should've raised some red flags for me. I think the issue here is my understanding of the word noted; I was under the impression that noted is a term that can be used to describe somebody's own opinions. However, thinking about it a bit more and reading MOS:SAID makes me realize why noted is usually interpreted as more "objective"[a] than some other choices, like "speculated".
  • I think the quote "aspect[s] of falling into more than one category at once and...transformation through time" is also somewhere I tried to qualify the claim, but failed. Looking back on what I originally wrote, potentially looks like where I tried to do that (plus the noted from before).
This analysis was less for you, and more for me (to make sure I don't make similar mistakes in the future). Let me know if I've completely missed something here. Thanks for your suggestions and your patience with me; I think this is the first time I've tried to write about a CTOP from scratch like this. Best, Staraction (talk | contribs) 01:32, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  1. ^ This is in quotes because I don't know if I'm using the word correctly, but I feel like it has the same general feeling...
I think you've pretty much got it spot on. Cases like the quote about falling into more than one category at once are one of the most common areas where I see issues with NPOV, and I have tried and failed to write an essay on it at WP:IMPLIEDWIKIVOICE — maybe you will get some value from it. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | edits) 01:51, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for this, @Rollinginhisgrave. I've never considered attributions and implied wikivoice like this. I'll keep this in mind going forward. Take care. Staraction (talk | contribs) 02:33, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary account IP viewer granted

[edit]
The temporary account IP viewer logo, composed of the Wikipedia globe with a user and an IP address

Hello, Staraction. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:

  • You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
  • Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).

It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:

  • When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
  • Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
  • Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).

Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! —Femke 🐦 (talk) 17:37, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!

[edit]

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email).
