In the Jane Remover article, what kind of a source would suffice in order to get that information on the page. Because I know it's true; their sister, father, aunt, uncle etc. everybody has a Turkish name and they mention they're Turkish Cypriot on Facebook. Same with the mother side being Polish, but there is not an official interview with Jane Remover regarding this. There is a news page mentioning their sister, them (using the deadname though) and their parents. Also there was also ancestry.com but you didn't accept it. Is there really no way for me to put that information? Hurley07103 — Preceding undated comment added 06:14, 17 July 2025 (UTC)

Help with after posting on talk page
[edit]BS"D
Hello Mr. Acosta. Thank you for helping me through the proper procedures of Wikipedia so far.
I have a question. I posted onto the talk page on R' Kanievsky's article. What should I do now? Do I wait for a... Hoich-editor? to make an official comment on it? Do I just update the article anyways? What is the right thing for me to do now?
Shibolet Nehrd (talk) 19:10, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
(P.S. If I'm supposed to wait for official comment - please don't go out of your way to look at it. I just want to know what to do for myself.) Shibolet Nehrd (talk) 19:10, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know you'd posted on the Chaim Kanievsky talk page. You can read my response to your question there.
- I've also added: "He was notable even among Jewish scholars for annually reading the entire text of many sources of Jewish law, including not only the Babylonian Talmud but also the less commonly studied Jerusalem Talmud" to the first paragraph of the "Rabbinic Career" section, with two sources, one from the National Library of Israel, the other the Yeshiva World article with the complete list quoted in the footnote; while I was at it, & based on the National Library of Israel source, I also added "known as the Gdol HaDor ('the greatest of his generation')" to the introductory paragraph.
- I didn't answer the question of just how long you should wait, because I'm not sure if there's a specific answer. Speaking just for myself, I'd probably wait two or three weeks- unless the article is something that gets a lot of traffic, one that many people will be visiting, and maybe editing, every day (e.g. Russian invasion of Ukraine (2022–present)), in which case a week or even less might be appropriate. To be honest, I almost never look at the talk pages of the articles I edit (the rare exceptions are generally if I'm thinking of adding something that I suspect might have already been chewed over on the talk page), and I don't know how many people actually look at talk pages. In fact, this is a reminder to me that from now on I should probably check the talk pages of articles I'm editing, at least those I'm editing extensively.

- Thank you for your help and guidance Mr. Acosta. As well, I've read the things you wrote, and I feel I have learnt a lot about both Wikipedia and general clear-mindedness from them. I appreciate your time spent to help me so much.

Dear UrielAcosta, I would like to ask if you kingly agree to edit an article History of the Jews in Buynaksk. Thank you in advance. Boxes12 (talk) 15:19, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
Dear UrielAcosta,
Thank you so much for edited articles History of the Jews in Buynaksk and History of the Jews in Derbent. As always, you did an excellent job!
There is left one city in Dagestan were used to live Jews, it is Makhachkala. I wrote an article History of the Jews in Makhachkala.
I would like to ask you to kindly agree to edit History of the Jews in Makhachkala as well.
It is last article about the history of the Jews in Dagestan. There are three sub articles of the main one – Judaism in Dagestan, that you previously edited. I just don’t know if you completed it.
Again, thank you for all your help!
P.S. Unfortunately, Islamic antisemite multiple times tried to harm this article, but it was restored.

Regarding the edits on Neemuch page
[edit]Thank you for improvising the article on the city of Neemuch few days back. I appreciate your efforts and thank you for your work. I am a Neemuch local and I unfortunately object to one your edits being the deletion of Etymology section in your edit. I am not familiar with the standards and formalities of Wikipedia. However, in the etymology section, the claim of Neemuch evolving from NIMACH (North India Mounted Artillery and Cavalry Headquarters) is indeed true. There is substantial historical documentation present where NIMACH is used (mainly during colonial era). The claim of clock statue bearing the name is also true and can be verified from Google Street View (I can send if you want). The other myths are also widespread around town but aren't having evidence to back them up. I did not want to add the section back before consulting you, the more experienced editor on Wikipedia. I request the etymology section to be added back in the article as it represents the history of my little town which is quite verifiable. You have also removed other portions of the article which I do understand as they indeed lack proper sourcing. Thank you and happy holidays. :) Metalduck07 (talk) 08:16, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
Question
[edit]Why did you capitalize "conservative" in this edit? I've never seen someone capitalize that word intentionally on wiki before but usually when I see conservative it's about political views and not religious affiliation. Maybe there's a different norm in this context? I'm always learning something new about the MOS so if there's a section you know of off the top of your head that's relevant to this situation, that'd be really helpful. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 07:23, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- User:Clovermoss:
- While "conservative" is an ordinary adjective, Conservative Jews are members of an organized movement called Conservative Judaism (the name has nothing to do with politics, it's an artifact of the movement having originated as the more religiously traditional wing in a split in Reform Judaism in the late 1800s).
- So it's like the difference between using "democrat" to mean a supporter of democracy and "democratic" as an ordinary adjective (as in "Iceland's Althing is the world's oldest democratic legislature" or "the ancient Spartans were not democrats") and using the capitalized forms to refer to the Democratic Party in the US (as in "the senator is a Democrat" or "the Democratic legislative agenda").
- This also happens with other religious terms- "catholic" and "orthodox" are ordinary adjectives, but when capitalized they can refer to organized branches of Christianity. UrielAcosta (talk) 16:36, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for explaining that. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:17, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

GAEMN Site Number - I can provide proof I actually work for them, if needed.
[edit]Just wanted to clarify the reason I re-updated number and the source for the GAEMN on the mesonet page and why I had not cited the website originally.
I had seen that our website was already cited, and felt it might be redundant and confusing to add another citation to the page, even if it was specifically to the listing of the stations. I also can provide proof of being a tech for the GAEMN, if needed - but would prefer that not be public if possible and necessary. I did help install the Perry, GA site on 4/30/25, for what it's worth.
Most news articles about the network also for some reason still quote 85, and that is very out of date - has been for a few years. I'm unsure why that's the number given most of the time, but the website does 91 currently (7/13/25) on the installation date page, as well as in the drop down list on the left to view each station.
Aside from re-linking the list of pages, and also confirming I do indeed work for the the GAEMN at UGA, I'm not sure what would be helpful for sourcing the change besides what I've tried to provide. If there is something I can provide/do that would be helpful, please let me know and I will do my best to provide what I can within reason. Wxnerdwriter (talk) 21:33, 13 July 2025 (UTC)

Blanking a new user's draft
[edit]I'm not sure why you blanked the sandbox draft; the AFCH script has a lang declination reasoning that points new users to more resources. It also leaves a message on the user's talk page, which you didn't do. It's best to let the new users known what they did wrong so they can at least have another attempt at it. Bobby Cohn 🍁 (talk) 13:47, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- user:Bobby Cohn: I ignore a draft in another language if it hasn't been submitted (as it could be an initial version that the editor plans to transfer in draft space- I have done the same thing when translating articles from English for the Portuguese & Spanish Wikipedias) but this had been submitted for review and since a draft in another language cannot be accepted (WP:ENGLISHPLEASE), to leave such pages there would waste the time of the page reviewers who would have to look at them.
As for advice, in what language should I give it to somebody who doesn't use English on English Wikipedia? (I know a little French, but I certainly would not presume to expect editors on French Wikipedia to address me in English). If you think that the editor should be given further advice, however, you are of course free to give it- but for transparency it must be in English like all communications on English Wikipedia. UrielAcosta (talk) 14:21, 15 July 2025 (UTC)- But it had been submitted. And you linked to WP:ENGLISHPLEASE, so there's no need to communicate to them in a language other than English, you're absolutely right. But they did write a short description and an edit summary in English. What I'm saying is at least using the declination reason from the AFCH script leaves a message on their talk page that explains the declination.
- If you want to blank it, fine, but I would at least explain to them on their talk page why you did so they can address it or find their own language project. Bobby Cohn 🍁 (talk) 14:31, 15 July 2025 (UTC)

Pinnacle Investment Management Page - Incorrect Information
[edit]Hi @UrielAcosta. Want to clarify some points about the Pinnacle Investment Page you are editing.
Origins (majority of information is inaccurate).
- Pinnacle was founded by Ian Macoun as a start up in 2006. Wilson HTM & Steve Wilson were early investors in the business.
- Multiple credible non-company affiliated sources back this up:
https://www.livewiremarkets.com/wires/no-shortcuts-how-ian-macoun-built-a-100-billion-funds-management-behemoth https://www.afr.com/work-and-careers/leaders/this-public-servant-founded-a-4b-company-he-never-wanted-to-be-an-entrepreneur-20250402-p5loi5 https://ioandc.com/pinnacles-roadmap-for-expansion-and-succession/ https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/markets-with-madison/is-the-original-60-40-strategy-dead-this-investing-icon-thinks-so/N5T52K2R2VBJXNYXB6DOPJFSTU/
- Pinnacle was stand-alone company which Wilson HTM had a stake in, up until 2016. Then via a reverse-takeover. Wilson HTM (the listed entity) was renamed to Pinnacle Investment Management Group, and the ASX ticket changed to PNI.See ASX announcement here: https://www.marketindex.com.au/asx/pni/announcements/market-update-2A968387 Brj8990 (talk) 22:48, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
Kind request
[edit]Hello UrielAcosta, thanks for patrolling new pages. I have just oversighted a userpage you tagged for deletion, because it contained non-public information about a minor and would like to ask you to please report such pages to the oversight team (WP:OS), should you come across them. It's probably something we should publicise better – because, at the moment, it's just an "if you know, you know" kind of situation, where people just know that it's a standard interpretation of WP:OSPOL criterion 1 – but it's quite important to protect our younger editors. Thanks again and best. — Salvio giuliano 13:56, 25 July 2025 (UTC)

Note on Touhou edit
[edit]Sorry about the bad edit, I'm new to this. I noticed that there wasn't an actual description of the primary gameplay (although that is included in the genre, other games still describe it in their gameplay descriptions), and that the description of boss spell cards are inaccurate (the used description of spell cards apply to all boss attacks. Spell cards are properly differentiated from normal attacks by their name and by the ability to get a point bonus by beating them without getting hit or bombing) Would you have any advice on improving the edit?
https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Embodiment_of_Scarlet_Devil/Gameplay
Here's the source I used primarily. (I'd use a more general page, but for whatever reason, there just isn't one. Despite the fact that most of the games share largely the game gameplay. Fan wiki moment.) Blueizcuteio (talk) 2:42, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

Maths school edit reversion
[edit]Hi - I saw you reverted my small change to the Maths school page. The reason given was that it was unsourced, but I had sourced it with the website of one of the Maths schools, which clearly backs up my change. The claim you have reverted it to is in fact not evidenced by its source - the current source is only in relation to one Maths school, whereas the claim in in relation to all Maths schools. I am new to any Wikipedia editing so apologise if I'm missing something here but can't follow the logic. Mathsschools1 (talk) 16:27, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Mathsschools1: I just looked at the edit and you are right, I'm sorry I overlooked your addition of the citation. I saw that content had been added in the middle of other content which was followed by sources, and apparently I didn't look all the way to the bottom where you had added it. Feel free to restore it (but without the word "however": see MOS:EDITORIAL for other words we shouldn't use in articles, like "but", "although" and "despite"). Or if you prefer I'll restore it myself, but as you are a new editor I thought you might want the additional experience editing.
- Ideally each claim would be followed by a separate reliable source but in practice that's not always practical, so to avoid confusion I suggest that in future cases like this the citation go immediately after the claim, and before (or after) other claims that are already sourced if that's practical, and if not you could just mention in the edit summary that you added the source below. And of course I'll try to be more careful in the future & always look to the bottom of the edit. UrielAcosta (talk) 18:08, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response - I've made the edit under a different username as apparently there were also concerns about my choice of user name. I appreciate your advice for future. Mathsschools1 (talk) 15:52, 1 August 2025 (UTC)

Speedy deletion
[edit]Hey! I'm new to the app and made a biography about my grandfather as he was a well-known writer here in Kenya and has even participated in international forums like UNESCO, I was inspired to do it after the death of Phoebe Asiyo a family friend and a politician who advocated for the rights of women in Kenya. I just wanted his story to be out there just like every other person who has contributed to the society in one way or another. Lemuelandrew08 (talk) 14:23, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Hi there! Given that the article subject is your grandfather, you have a clear conflict of interest and therefore, are strongly discouraged from directly creating or editing articles about him. If you still want to create an article about him, I highly recommend using the Articles for Creation process, whereby an experienced editor will review your work and provide feedback. Before doing that, however, you'll want to make sure he meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines for people, which is how we determine who deserves a Wikipedia article. In short, you'd want to find at least three reliable, independent sources with significant coverage of your grandfather. I hope this helps! The article 72-hour clause has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Legal stub that has been sourced to unreliable sources for almost 20 years. Terribly misleading; see talk page for more details. WP:TNT.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. You eliminated my edits on the White Horse Tavern
[edit]The tavern has 300 years of history, why is that not considered important to document? Rather than throw out everything I wrote, and reduce 300+ years to a paragraph, can you provide more comments? WP:NOTEVERYTHING, WP:NOR, WP:NOTESSAY as the reasons. I added citation for a significant amount of material, that was researched over the last few years. Why is that considered an essay? You eliminated so many things that cleary not related to the reasons you gave, I am just confused and completely disillusioned that this is how Wikipedia works. In fact you left in the first sentence a clear mistake on what the tavern was called. Wpl00 (talk) 02:26, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- Wpl00: WP:NOTEVERYTHING, WP:NOR, & WP:NOTESSAY are links to some of Wikipedia's rules for editors. You can click on them to read what they say, which should help clarify the issues. UrielAcosta (talk) 02:51, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- It does seem like a subjective judgement to claim NOTEVERYTHING, without knowing everything that could be written. Are you claiming that because of including several letters that reference the tavern, that one letter would have made the point--btw I didn't include every letter that references the tavern only few? Or perhaps because I had two historic figures as visitors. You left in Jefferson, but left out William Trent. Trent is a notable individual with his own entry, why would that not be a fact to include? Perhaps it was the section on the Freemasons, when it was clearly a fact backed by citations. Or is that not an important fact? None of this is original material. I'm not even sure how NOR applies. Nothing new is being proposed, it's all been written elsewhere. I just gathered it together. The NOTESSAY I can see if you think I should not have to describe what a Tavern was in colonial times, but since the term Tavern has a very different meaning today than it did back then, I thought it was important. Or perhaps NOTESSAY was meant for listing most of the owners, I could see that. But since you applied those terms to everything I wrote, it's hard to know what it was meant to clarify. The entry you left is not at all representative of the history of the tavern. I don't want to put hours of work into making a complete entry for a topic, that can be dismissed in total in minutes. WQFS Page - Seeking Clarification
[edit]I am not clear on why you removed large sections of the WQFS Page on 8/16. Because of your edits to the History section, the page now implies that WQFS has been "broadcasting in an adult contemporary or middle of the road format" since 1970. This is completely inaccurate, but what is accurate is in a section that you removed - "WQFS features a wide variety of genres. The main format is indie rock. About one hundred DJs, half of them Guilford College students, work at the station at any given time. Students serve as station managers. Their leadership roles include general management, programming, promotions, news, and production" "WQFS plays many local and North Carolina artists." My hope is that you will accept the re-admission of the bolded, removed statements, as these statements are an important part of the station's identity and culture - they should be included as they are an accurate description of WQFS. Please advise, and I thank you in advance for reading this. Hquakeh (talk) 15:25, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

Trying to save you from from some headaches, friend
[edit]- Let me give you some information that came out in the ANI discussion. I'm not saying it is the only problem, but it is a problem: You are tagging user pages as spam when they aren't spam. Users are allowed to tell some about themselves. There is a big difference between someone making an advertisement on their user page, and someone just saying "I'm Bob, I go to college, I live [city], I work for XYZ company, etc etc etc". The last two times you tagged user pages for CSD, they were turned down and others have said this is common for you. You need to either stop tagging user pages, or familiarize yourself with the policy, and get a much higher tolerance for people talking about themselves on their user page, or you will end up getting banned from adding the speedy delete tag on any page. And yes, you really SHOULD notify the editor when you tag them. Normally, this isn't such a big deal, but you have shown to have a bad track record, to be honest, so yes, you SHOULD just go ahead and use Twinkle to issue CSD tags, and automatically notify the editor in question. Of course, you can ignore my advice, but you would be setting yourself up for sanctions, soon, so do yourself a favor, and just do these simple things: Don't tag unless it is bindingly obvious it is truly spam, and just use Twinkle to tag them, which defaults to notifying them. This is after you go read the criteria on G11 again. Thank you for attention in the matter. Dennis Brown - 2¢ 09:51, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
