Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]
Hello WikiAdd01! Your additions to Draft:All The President's Elephants (Film) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license—to request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's eligibility.
- Copyrighted material donation: If you hold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license the text for publication here. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia: Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, see Help:Translation § Licensing.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. The4lines |||| (talk) 15:26, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the input. I was reading about Wikipedia copyright last night, prior to receiving your message. I have not created a page before and, as you can see, I am still in the creation phase of this new page/subject, after just recently watching the doco. I have not submitted it for review as yet, since I know that I need to change things. I put in what I have to date as a helpful guideline for me to then put into my own words. I can only do so much at a time. I didn't realise anybody would be looking at this until I submitted it for review. WikiAdd01 (talk) 07:56, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- One question please - Is everything on someone's public website considered to be NOT in the public domain? WikiAdd01 (talk) 08:06, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- Correct, most websites are copyrighted. Typically, public domain sources will either be, pre-1929, by the government, or will have a notice telling you so. It's safe to assume that most sources you'll be using are copyrighted. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. The4lines |||| (talk) 15:38, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- My apologies to bother you again. I'm afraid that I couldn't work out how to save what changes I'd just made, prior to exiting Wiki, and hence seem to have lost everything that I - and others - did. Fortunately, I did make a copy of what I had written (still in draft, as yet without references), so I do have that to copy back in... Could you tell me how I save changes, without actually publishing it - so that I can come back and do more, prior to making it public to reviewers?? I appreciate your help. WikiAdd01 (talk) 02:40, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- More... it seems like I actually do need to use my Sandbox page - ie User Page draft - in order to be able to save my draft article, to be able to come back and do more editing to it. If this isn't correct, perhaps you could let me know. Thankyou. WikiAdd01 (talk) 07:58, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

All the President's Elephants (Film) moved to draftspace
[edit]Thanks for your contributions to All the President's Elephants (Film). Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and Too many of the sources are unreliable.. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.
Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Robert McClenon (talk) 14:17, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, thankyou. I have been adding additional sources/info, however did not personally resubmit it after it being put back to draft mode by you. I notice, however, that it doesn't seem to be in draft anymore. For your info. WikiAdd01 (talk) 05:48, 25 August 2025 (UTC)

Opinions
[edit]You have to be very careful to avoid anything that is an opinion.
"a compelling account of Sharon Pincott's life-changing move"
who says it was compelling? Who says it was "life-changing"?
"his first extraordinary encounter with these intimately known elephants, during the filming of this documentary, which you can see clearly moved him deeply."
Who says it was extraordinary? What if I disagree with "it clearly moved him deeply"? DS (talk) 13:53, 16 September 2025 (UTC)

AfC notification: Draft:All the President's Elephants (Film) has a new comment
[edit]
- Hi, am I reading the correct comment that you're referring to? - re the one suggesting that I may have a close connection to the subject? Please let me assure you that I have never met the documentary subject Sharon Pincott. I am an elephant-lover and active in many African elephant social media pages/groups however, including Pincott's www.facebook.com/PresidentialElephantsZim page, her personal www.facebook.com/SharonPincott10 page (although as she writes, this one is not an interactive page). I have read (and re-read) 3 of her 5 published elephant memoirs which all take pride of place on my coffee table! (I have not read her two Zimbabwe self-published books that are listed for her, as they were apparently only available for purchase in Zimbabwe.) I have followed her work, and her many trials and tribulations, in Zimbabwe since she first arrived there in 2001, firstly via email newsletters and then on Facebook. There is also a lot of information on Pincott and her work with the Presidential Elephants of Zimbabwe, her books, and this documentary of her work, when you google. There are also numerous news articles about her, these elephants, her books and documentary online, also easily found by googling. (Unfortunately because it is a 2012 documentary, some google results take me to 'page not found' or similar, limiting some of the refences I have been able to use.) Only quite recently I got to view (multiple times now) the All the President's Elephants documentary when it became available for free viewing around the world, and was so moved by it that I felt it deserved a Wikipedia article, just as there is one on her personally. (I also believe that her best-selling memoir books deserve articles too but I have not pursued that at this point.) There are also news articles and posts that Pincott's health is failing and I partially consider this to be my contribution to help to spread awareness, as Pincott often writes that she views as essential, for the elephants' sake. I have spent many days/months researching this article, prior to trying to put it together here, by simply reminding myself of what I have already read about her over the past 20+ years, by referring back to her memoirs, her Facebook pages and news articles written on her. I do admit that she is a hero of mine, and do what I can to help elephants in general from afar. I also have a connection with Zimbabwe, since my grandparents lost their farm there to the land invasions, around the same time as Pincott arrived in Zimbabwe. I hope this helps you understand my connection to her and the elephants. WikiAdd01 (talk) 11:39, 30 October 2025 (UTC)
- Apologies Drew, Looks like I'm mistaken that this comment came from you. Sorry. I have read your actual comment and will action. Thankyou. WikiAdd01 (talk) 11:57, 30 October 2025 (UTC)
