Wikipedia is not a social network and not a forum for social chat. However, many Wikipedians are sociable people.

In person

[edit]

A number of populous places have Wikipedia meetups, which mix practical support and social activities. You may find details on the talk page of the WikiProject about the country or place where you live; such as Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United Kingdom or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New York. If you have an account and are signed in, you may see notification of local meetups at the top of your Watchlist. They might be organised by Wikimedia affiliates (including chapters and user groups) or by independent groups of contributors.

Some universities and colleges also have student societies dedicated to working on Wikipedia.

Online

[edit]

You can also find groups of Wikipedians chatting on most social forums - Facebook, Reddit, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram, etc. The various pages are generally not officially sanctioned by Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF), though some have been set up by Wikimedia affiliates.

Official WMF and affiliate channels are listed at meta:Social media.

Discussion forums

[edit]

Some people come to Wikipedia wanting to discuss the subject of an article. Wikipedia is not a forum for such discussions.

Some suitable places for such discussions are listed at Wikipedia:Alternative outlets#Discussion forums
