Interest in testing a tool for Breaking News? Seeking feedback
[edit]My team at the foundation, WME, has developed a dashboard that tries to identify new articles related to global "newsworthy" events as they are being written about across Wikipedia language editions at any given moment. You can read more about it here. I'm seeking help to improve the feature.
Here is the direct link to the dashboard. (desktop only).
I'd appreciate if anyone that tries it out can surface any potentially missing templates from across language projects that would help us capture more results. Using the thumbs up and down buttons in the demo to confirm or deny if entries are accurately identified as breaking news, would help me in the long and medium-term in building a better, more accurate tool.
Although Enterprises' focus is not on creating editing tools or gadgets, we hope this can be of use to the community, too.
Thanks! FNavas-WMF (talk)
Predicting article views by machine learning algorithms
[edit]I think we can apply some machine-learning algorithms for predicting page views days/hours/minutes ago
- Based on 1-concept 2-reasons 3-previous page views: train a model. This model can predict page views for each article on a given day.
- Predict page views for the following days
- If its prediction be somehow wrong, then we check the reasons given to it and if we are sure that all reasons was applied, the learned model is modified and improved automatically.
This "view prediction model" incorporates some features from Wikidata about the type of concept. For example Learjet 55 is an airplane and so on. I think we only need to give "reasons" to this model and get predicted view number from it. Hooman Mallahzadeh (talk) 17:27, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

Trump contingency plan
[edit]We've all heard some rumors about Trump's health and the possibility of JD Vance replacing him as President of the United States. While, as an encyclopedia, we obviously shouldn't rely on these rumors, it can help to be prepared in advance in case the news actually drop, whether it is soon or in a more distant future. Wikipedia:WikiProject Current events/London Bridge task force was quickly assembled after the death of Elizabeth II, but, with the benefit of hindsight, having a similar project in advance could help deal with the massive amount of edits that will take place in the immediate succession of the announcement.
Of course, some specifics (like the question of the royal title) won't apply here, but we can start working on a list of which articles and templates would be affected by such a change, how to discuss the event in each of the main ones, whether to have a separate article for it ready from the get-go, which photograph to use (1st vs 2nd term presidential portrait?), etc. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 13:06, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
- I will add, that perhaps consideration should also be given to other prominent figures at national government and international level?(Given the volatile nature of certain regions?).
- (Aside: Before policy changes, about holding stale draft, Wikinews certainly had prepared obits for certain political and world stage persons, mirroring the editorial practices traditional media organisations have had for decades.) ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:17, 30 August 2025 (UTC)

No Kings Protest 2
[edit]According to the official "No Kings" Organization's website they are planning to do a 2nd protest on October 18th. Right now it appears to be niche and I would appreciate it if people can take notice and update the article. https://www.nokings.org/ BelowFlames (talk) 05:22, 18 September 2025 (UTC)

NewJeans
[edit]@Dmhll: Please stop removing the NewJeans story, you initially claimed it was unnotable but I found more reliable sources to indicate notability. Could you please link the policy that states "this portal doesn't report on singular people except legal matters regarding politicians"
? In contrast, the legal trial of Sean Combs (an individual artist, not a politician) was posted on October 3. If you can find the policy you've mentioned, I will revert the edit myself. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Thanks ♥) 18:01, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
