Stephen Edward Ambrose (* 10 Januarie 1936 – † 13 Oktober 2002) was 'n Amerikaanse geskiedkundige, en biograaf van die voormalige Amerikaanse Presidente Dwight D. Eisenhower en Richard Nixon. Hy was 'n professor in geskiedenis by die Universiteit van New Orleans en die skrywer van vele gewilde Amerikaanse geskiedenisboeke.
Daar was eertyds beweringe van plagiaat teen Ambrose gerig, asook kritiek betreffende onakkuraathede in sy werk. In 'n resensie van To America: Personal Reflections of an Historian vir die New York Times het William Everdell egter geskryf dat "hy sekerlik beter verdien het van sommige van sy afgunstige tydgenote"[1]
