Charles Avery (28 de mayu de 1873, Chicago – 23 de xunetu de 1926, Hollywood) foi un actor, guionista, direutor de cine, actor de teatru y actor de cine d'Estaos Xuníos. Tuvo activu na dómina del cine mudu.

Unu de los siete orixinales Keystone Kops,^[3] Avery dirixó a Roscoe Arbuckle en trenta y un comedies producíes por Keystone Studios.

Biografía

El so nome completu yera Charles Avery Bradford, y nació en Chicago, Illinois. La so hermana Charlotte tamién yera actriz,^[4] al igual que la so madre, Marie Stanley,^[4] y el so padre yera dramaturgu.^[4]

Empecipió la so carrera como actor teatral, siendo dalgunos de los sos papeles el del títulu na obra La tía de Carlos,^[5][6] y el de Pegleg Hopkins nuna adautación de David Harum, na cual William Henry Crane yera'l protagonista.^[7][8] Antes d'empezar a trabayar nel cine pa Biograph Company en 1908, Avery actuó nuna xira cola obra The Clansman, na cual encarnaba al Gobernador Shrimp.^[4][9]

Nel ámbitu cinematográficu, dende 1908 a 1909 Avery actuó en 33 curtios so la direición de D. W. Griffith y Fred J. Balshofer, usualmente en papeles de repartu, y de cutiu trabayando xunto a Mack Sennett. En 1912, cuando Mack Sennett foi a dirixir Keystone Studios, él siguiólu xunto a Mabel Normand, Fred Maze y Ford Sterling. Avery formó parte de los Keystones Cops dende la primer apaición del grupu nel filme Hoffmeyer's Legacy, y caltuvo'l so papel en comedies de la serie como Bangville Police y The Gangsters.

En 1913 empezó a dirixir, siendo'l so primer títulu Across the Alley, de Keystone Studios. Avery dirixó a Sydney John Hawkes na serie de filmes Gussie y a Charles Murray n'otra serie, Hogan. Amás, siguió actuando, destacando la so participación nos trés primeros filmes de los Keystone Kops.
