মরিস হিলকুইট
মরিস হিলকুইট (ইংরেজি: Morris Hillquit) (১৮৬৯-১৯৩৩) ছিলেন বিশ শতকের প্রথমাংশের মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সমাজতান্ত্রিক দলের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও নেতা এবং নিউইয়র্ক শহরের নিম্ন পূর্ব দিকের নামকরা শ্রমিক আইনজীবী। ১৯১৭ সালের নভেম্বরে তিনি যুদ্ধ-বিরোধী প্লাটফর্ম চালান এবং সেসময় হিলকুইট নিউইয়র্ক শহরের মেয়র নির্বাচনে সমাজতান্ত্রিক প্রার্থী হিসেবে ১০০,০০-এর অধিক ভোট লাভ করেন।[তথ্যসূত্র প্রয়োজন] তিনি প্রথম জীবনে মার্কসবাদের সংগে যোগ দেন, পরে সংস্কারবাদ ও সুবিধাবাদে অধঃপতিত হন।[১]
নভেম্বর ১৯১৭ সালে, একটি যুদ্ধবিরোধী প্ল্যাটফর্মের উপর চলমান, হিলকুইট নিউ ইয়র্ক সিটি মেয়র পদে প্রতিদ্বন্দিতা করে সমাজতান্ত্রিক প্রার্থী হিসেবে পেয়েছিলেন ১০০,০০০ অধিক ভোট। হিলকুইট আবার নিউ ইয়র্কের মেয়র পদের জন্য ১৯৩২ সালে প্রতিদ্বন্দিতা করেন। মধ্যে তিনি তার জীবনের বিভিন্ন সময়ে মোট পাঁচবার মার্কিন কংগ্রেসের প্রার্থী হিসেবে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন।

[সম্পাদনা]মরিস হিলকুইট মার্কিন হিব্রু ট্রেডস, একটি গার্মেন্ট শ্রমিক ইউনিয়ন ১৮৮৮ সালে গঠন করতে সাহায্য করেন। যখন Arbeiter Zeitung পত্রিকার জন্য তিনি লেখালেখি করছিলেন।[২] তিনি ১৮৯৩ সালে নিউ ইয়র্ক ইউনিভার্সিটি ল স্কুল থেকে স্নাতক হন। তাকে একই বছরের নভেম্বরে নিউইয়র্ক স্টেট আইনজীবী সমিতির সদস্য হিসেবে ভর্তি করা হয়।[২]
মৃত্যু
[সম্পাদনা]তিনি ১৯৩৩ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ৮ অক্টোবর মধ্যরাতের কয়েক মিনিট আগে যক্ষ্মায় মারা যান।[৩] মৃত্যুর সময় তাঁর বয়স ছিল ৬৪ বছর।
