Plateto korespondas al plaquette nome franca vorto kun signifo de malgranda plakedo, aparte malgrandaj reliefaj skulptaĵoj el bronzo aŭ aliaj similaj materialoj, ofte faritaj por esti penditaj sur muroj. Tiuj estis popularaj en la Itala Renesanco kaj poste. Ili ĉiam estis proksime rilatitaj al la medalo, kaj multaj premioj hodiaŭ estas en la formo de plateto. La tielnomita mortotabulo (la Memora Plakedo) estas dudeka-jarcenta ekzemplo ekde post la Unua Mondmilito.
