Robert Morton Nance

Robert Morton Nance (Cardiff, 10 de abril de 1873 – Hayle, 27 de mayo de 1959) fue un pintor, lingüista y escritor británico, promotor del renacimento del córnico. [1]​

Biografía

Nació en Gales de padres córnicos y en 1878, su familia se mudó a Penarth.

Estudió arte en Cardiff y Bushey con Hubert von Herkomer. En 1898, publicó su primer poemario en inglés The Merry Ballad of the Cornish Pasty. Tras fallecer su esposa en 1902, vivió un tiempo en París perfeccionando su técnica pictórica. Pintó sobre todo batallas navales, pero apenas expuso. [2]​

Se mudó en 1906 a Cornualles estableciéndose en la aldea de Nancledra, cerca de St Ives. Fundó en 1920 con su maestro Henry Jenner la Old Cornwall Society en St Ives, y en 1924 fue fundador de la Federation of Old Cornwall Society y de su órgano Old Cornwall (1925). En 1928, inauguró el festival de música córnica Gorsedh Kernow en Boscawen-Un donde adoptó el nombre bardo "Mordon". De 1951 a 1955 fue presidente de la Royal Institution of Cornwall.

Publicó también un método de enseñanza y un diccionario del córnico. Fue también arqueólogo marino.
