آمریکاییهای هیسپانیک و لاتین یک گروه قومی زبانی از آمریکاییها است که ریشههای جمعیت شناسی آن به کشورهای آمریکای لاتین(به خصوص مکزیک، برزیل و آرژانتین) و اسپانیا بر میگردد.[۴][۵][۶] بهطور کلی تر، این گروه همهٔ اشخاصی در ایالات متحده را دربر میگیرد که خود را خواه کامل خواه بهطور جزئی هیسپانی یا لاتین میشناسند.[۷][۸][۹][۱۰][۱۱][۱۲][۱۳][۱۴]
هیسپانیها در سال ۲۰۲۰ با بیش از ۶۵.۳ میلیون نفر جمعیت ۱۹٫۵٪ از جمعیت ایالات متحده آمریکا و قلمرو های آن از جمله پورتوریکو را تشکیل میدادند.[۱۵] نرخ رشد آنها از سال ۲۰۰۰ تا ۲۰۰۷، ۲۸٫۷٪ - سه برابر نرخ رشد کل جمعیت کشور - بود.[۱۶]

در آمریکا ۴۱ میلیون نفر به اسپانیایی صحبت میکنند که بنا به آمار ۱۳ درصد از کل جمعیت این کشور است. دوازده میلیون نفر هم در این کشور به دو زبان انگلیسی و اسپانیایی تکلم میکنند. به این ترتیب آمریکا جلوتر از اسپانیا دومین کشوری است که بیشترین تعداد اسپانیایی زبان را دارد. از ۱۹۹۰ به این سو تعداد اسپانیایی زبانهای آمریکا بیش از دو برابر شده است. اگر همین روند ادامه یابد اسپانیایی زبانهای آمریکا حتی از مکزیک هم بیشتر خواهند شد. حتی در میان کسانی که نژاد لاتین ندارند هم اسپانیایی پرطرفدارترین زبان دوم در آمریکا حساب میشود.[۱۸]

For Census 2000, American Community Survey: People who identify with the terms "Hispanic" or "Latino" are those who classify themselves in one of the specific Hispanic or Latino categories listed on the Census 2000 or ACS questionnaire - "Mexican," "Puerto Rican," or "Cuban" - as well as those who indicate that they are "other Spanish, Hispanic, or Latino." The countries or people who are in the Hispanic or Latino American groups in the Census Bureau's reports are the following: Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, Argentina, Bolivian, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela. Origin can be viewed as the heritage, nationality group, lineage, or country of birth of the person or the person's parents or ancestors before their arrival in the United States. People who identify their origin as Spanish, Hispanic, or Latino may be of any "race".
1990 Census of Population and Housing: A self-designated classification for people whose origins are from Spain, the Spanish speaking countries of Central or South America, the Caribbean, or those identifying themselves generally as Spanish, Spanish-American, etc. Origin can be viewed as ancestry, nationality, or country of birth of the person or person's parents or ancestors prior to their arrival in the United States.
