Cnemaspis smaug es un specie de gekko diurne, insectivore, vivente in roccas in Kerala (en).[1]
Con un distantia inter muso e orificio usque 52 mm, iste gekko es de grande dimension.
Le genere Cnemaspis es polyphyletic (con brancas in Africa, Asia del Sud e Asia del Sudest).
Le Cnemaspis de Asia del Sud originarea del indian platta (en) (insular inter 130-120 Ma e 70-50 Ma) con Gondwana ancestria. Lor dispersion comenciarea in Northern Ghats (en) al nord del Palakkad Gap (en) circa 74–53 Ma retro.
Iste specie appartine al clado beddomei del gruppo del Cnemaspis de Asia del Sud.
