Gananath Obeyesekere (2 Februari 1930 – 25 Maret 2025)^[1] adalah seorang antropolog Sri Lanka yang merupakan profesor emeritus antropologi di Universitas Princeton dan telah melakukan banyak pekerjaan di negara asalnya Sri Lanka. Penelitiannya difokuskan pada psikoanalisis dan antropologi dan cara-cara di mana simbolisme personal dikaitkan dengan pengalaman keagamaan, selain Eksplorasi Eropa terhadap Polinesia pada abad ke-18 dan setelahnya, dan implikasi dari pelayaran ini bagi pengembangan etnografi.^[2] Buku-bukunya termasuk Land Tenure in Village Ceylon, Medusa's Hair,^[3] The Cult of the Goddess Pattini,^[4] Buddhism Transformed (coauthor), The Work of Culture, The Apotheosis of Captain Cook: European Mythmaking in the Pacific, and Making Karma.
