Love Unlimited adalah girl band R&B yang mengisi vokal latar untuk Barry White lewat album dan tur konsernya. Love Unlimited juga meraih kesuksesan lewat rekaman mereka sendiri.
Karier
[sunting | sunting sumber]Didirikan pada tahun 1969, Love Unlimited beranggotakan istri Barry White, Glodean James White; saudara perempuannya, Linda James; dan sepupu mereka, Diane Taylor.[1]
Lagu signature dari Love Unlimited pertama adalah "Walkin' in the Rain with the One I Love" pada tahun 1972. Lagu ini berada di posisi ke-14 di Billboard Hot 100, posisi ke-7 di Cash Box Pop Charts, dan posisi ke-6 di Soul Singles Chart.[2] Lagu ini juga sukses di Belanda, berada di posisi ke-15 di Dutch Top 40.[3] Album studio ini terjual lebih dari satu juta kopi, dan dianugerahi sebuah sertifikasi emas pada tahun 1972.[4]
Pada tahun 1973, apabila album studio mereka bertajuk Under the Influence of.... Love Unlimited! masuk lima besar di tangga album Pop,[2] Love Unlimited menjadi grup vokal cewek pertama yang album studionya masuk lima besar sejak album kompilasi, Greatest Hits Vol. 3 (1970) dari Diana Ross and the Supremes. Album Under the Influence of.... Love Unlimited! menampilkan singel "It May Be Winter Outside (But in My Heart It's Spring)", sebuah lagu yang pada asalnya diciptakan untuk Felice Taylor pada tahun 1966. Lagu "It May Be Winter Outside (But in My Heart It's Spring)" berada di posisi ke-11 di UK Singles Chart pada awal tahun 1975.[5]
Pada tahun 1975, Love Unlimited mempunyai lagu andalan pertama dan satu-satunya, "I Belong to You", yang menghabiskan waktu satu pekan di posisi jawara di Soul Singles Chart. Lagu ini juga masuk 28 besar di Billboard Hot 100.[2] Lagu "I Belong to You" ditampilkan di dalam album, In Heat, yang juga menampilkan sebuah versi vokal dari lagu The Love Unlimited Orchestra, "Love's Theme".[6]
Pada tahun 1977, mereka dipindahkan ke label rekaman milik Barry White, Unlimited Gold, merekam dua album-album selanjutnya: He's All I've Got dan Love is Back (1979).[6] Love Unlimited dibubarkan pada tahun 1981 selepas anggota-anggota mereka mencari karier secara mandiri. Diane Taylor wafat karena kanker pada tahun 1985.[1]
