[3]Buldam is the first Pomo settlement in Mendocino County, California. [1] It is located on the north side of the Big River, near the mouth of the river and east of the present city of Mendocino; His exact whereabouts are unknown. [1] [2] Following the standard convention of the Pomo people, in which a Pomo village is called by adding "-pomo" to the name of their main place, the village of Buldam is called Buldam- pomo.
According to some Pomo literature, people from the Mitom Pomo who were driven to Nabo and other places in the inland valley were settled by Europeans in 1851. Its establishment sparked a war between the Mitom Pomo and the Pomo from Point Arena, perhaps beyond the capacity of the area.
However, other journals have questioned this timeline, who claim that cargo from the wreck of Frolic in 1850, about 4 miles (6 km) north of the main river, Pomo was rescued from Buldam. [1] A different story about the cause of the war between the Point Arena Pomo and the Buldam Pomo involves the wounding of one of the Point Arena Pomo.
