ドラコヴェナトル (学名：Dracovenator) は、前期ジュラ紀の南アフリカに生息していた絶滅した新獣脚類の属。

発見と命名

ドラコヴェナトルのタイプ標本BP/1/5243は1981年にエリオット層（英語版）で発見された^[1][2]。 属名は「龍の狩人」の意で^[2][3]オランダ語で「ドラゴンの山」を意味するDrakensbergの麓で産出したことに由来し、種小名はKitching教授のフィールドアシスタントへの献名^[4]。

人間との大きさの比較

全長5.5-6.5 m、体重250kgと推定される^[3][5][6]。

Yatesは記載論文において、ドラコヴェナトルと他の属を区別することができる特徴として、歯槽骨縁と深く狭い溝でつながっている大きな外側前顎孔を囲む大きな二股の窩があること・関節骨の外側に関節後突起と剣状突起の後縁を隔てる深い斜めの切り欠きがあり、関節骨には特によく発達した背側のタブ状の突起があること・圧縮された下顎骨を挙げている^[4]。

生態

食性は肉食^[2][3]と推測され、レソトサウルスなどの基盤鳥盤類やマッソスポンディルスなどの竜脚形類を狩っていた可能性がある^[3]。

記載時、ドラコヴェナトルは新獣脚類に配置された^[4]。最初の系統解析では、ドラコヴェナトルはディロフォサウルス及びズパイサウルスとクレードを形成することが示されている。
