ಕ್ಯಾ. ಅಮರಿಂದರ್ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಪ್ರಸಕ್ತ ಭಾರತೀಯ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಪಂಜಾಬ್ ಘಟಕದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು. ಪಟಿಯಾಲ ರಾಜಕುಮಾರರಾದ ಕ್ಯಾ. ಅಮರಿಂದರ್ ಸಿಂಗ್, ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸೇನೆ (೧೯೬೩-೬೫), ಪಂಜಾಬ್ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ( ೨೦೦೨-೨೦೦೭), ೧೪ ಲೋಕಸಭೆಯ ವಿರೋಧ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಉಪನಾಯಕ ಹೀಗೆ ಹಲವು ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.[೧] Presently, he is the sitting President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC),[೨][೩][೪]

[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]ಫ಼ುಲ್ಕಿಯಾನ್ ಜಾಟ್ ವಂಶಸ್ಥ ಪಟಿಯಾಲದ ಮಹಾರಾಜ ಯಾದವೀಂದ್ರ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮಹಾರಾಣಿ ಮೊಹಿಂದರ್ ಕೌರ್ ದಂಪತಿಗೆ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಅಮರಿಂದರ್ ಸಿಂಗ್, ವೆಲ್‌ಹ್ಯಾಮ್ ಬಾಲಕರ ಶಾಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸನಾವರ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿಯ ಲಾರೆನ್ಸ್ ಶಾಲೆ, ಡೆಹ್ರಾಡೂನ್‌ನ ಡೂನ್ ಶಾಲೆ ಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜೀವ್ ಗಾಂಧಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ವ್ಯಾಸಂಗ ಮಾಡಿದರು.[೫]

ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸೇನೆಯ ಸೇವೆ ವಿವರ
[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]ಪುಣೆಯ ರಾಷ್ಟೀಯ ಮಿಲಿಟರಿ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ, ಡೆಹ್ರಾಡೂನ್‌ನ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಮಿಲಿಟರಿ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಯಲ್ಲಿ ತರಬೇತಿ ಪಡೆದು,ಜೂನ್ ೧೯೬೩ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸೇನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಯುಕ್ತಿಗೊಂಡ ಅಮರಿಂದರ್ ಸಿಂಗ್, ೧೯೬೫ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇನೆಗೆ ರಾಜೀನಾಮೆಯಿತ್ತರು. ೧೯೬೫ರ ಭಾರತ-ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇನೆ ಸೇರಿ ಕ್ಯಾಪ್ಟನ್ ಹುದ್ದೆ ಪಡೆದು ಹೋರಾಡಿದರು.[೮][೯]

[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]೧೯೮೦ರಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಲಾ ಸಹಪಾಠಿ ರಾಜೀವ್ ಗಾಂಧಿ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಸೇರಿದಾಗ,ಅಮರಿಂದರ್ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಇತರ ಡೂನ್ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಗೆಳೆಯರೊಂದಿಗೆ ರಾಜೀವ್‌ರ ಜೊತೆಗೂಡಿ, ಪಂಜಾಭ್‌ನಿಂದ ಲೋಕಸಭೆಗೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾದರು. ೧೯೮೪ರ ಆಪರೇಷನ್ ಬ್ಲೂಸ್ಟಾರ್ ವಿರೋಧಿಸಿ, ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಪಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ರಾಜೀನಾಮೆಯಿತ್ತು, ಶಿರೋಮಣಿ ಅಕಾಲಿದಳಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದರು. ತಲ್ವಾಂಡಿ ಸಬೋ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಿಂದ ಶಾಸಕರಾಗಿ ಕೃಷಿ, ಅರಣ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪಂಚಾಯ್ತಿರಾಜ್ ಖಾತೆ ಸಚಿವರಾದರು.
೧೯೯೨ರಲ್ಲಿ In 1992 he broke away from the Akali Dal and formed a splinter group named Shiromani Akali Dal (Panthic) which later merged with the Congress in 1998 (after his party's crushing defeat in Vidhan Sabha election in which he himself was defeated from his own constituency where he got only 856 votes) after Sonia Gandhi took over the reign of the party. He was defeated by Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra from Patiala Constituency in 1998 by a whooping margin of 33251 votes. He served as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee on two occasions from 1999 to 2002 and 2010 to 2013, he also became Chief Minister of Punjab in 2002 and continued until 2007.
In September 2008, a special committee of Punjab Vidhan Sabha expelled him on the count of regularities in the transfer of land related to the Amritsar Improvement Trust by the Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party led government.[೧೦] In 2010, the Supreme Court of India held his expulsion unconstitutional on the grounds it was excessive and unconstitutional.[೧೦]
He was appointed as chairman of Punjab Congress Campaign Committee in 2008. Captain Amarinder Singh is also a Permanent Invitee to the Congress Working Committee since 2013. He defeated senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley by a margin of more than 1,02,000 votes in 2014 general elections. He has been a member of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha for five terms representing Patiala (Urban) thrice, Samana and Talwandi Sabo once each.
On 27 November 2015, Amarinder Singh was appointed President of Punjab Congress in the run up to Punjab elections slated for 2017.[೧೧]
President of All India Jat Maha Sabha
[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]Capt Amarinder Singh is president of the All India Jat Maha Sabha. He had been associated with the Jat Maha Sabha for last 30 years as its patron since 1980 when Capt Bhagwan Singh was its president. He demanded reservation for Jats under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.[೧೨]

[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]He has also written books on war and Sikh history which include A Ridge Too Far, Lest We Forget, The Last Sunset: Rise and Fall of Lahore Durbar and The Sikhs in Britain: 150 years of Photographs. Among his most recent works are Honour and Fidelity: India's Military Contribution to the Great War 1914 to 1918 released in Chandigarh on 6 December 2014, and The Monsoon War: Young Officers Reminisce – 1965 India-Pakistan War- which contains his memoirs of the 1965 Indo-Pak war.[೧೩][೧೪]
