ചാല തടാകം ചല്ല തടാകം എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന, കെനിയയുടെയും ടാൻസാനിയയുടെയും അതിർത്തിയിൽ വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്ന ഒരു ക്രേറ്റർ തടാകമാണ്.[4] ഏകദേശം 250,000 വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പാണ് തടാകം രൂപപ്പെട്ടത്.[5] കിളിമഞ്ചാരോ പർവതത്തിന് കിഴക്കായി, കെനിയയിലെ ടവേറ്റയ്ക്ക് 8 കിലോമീറ്റർ (5.0 മൈൽ) വടക്കുഭാഗത്തായും റോംബോ ജില്ലയിൽ നിന്ന് 55 കിലോമീറ്റർ (34 മൈൽ) കിഴക്കു ഭാഗത്തായുമാണ് തടാകം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. പരമാവധി 170 മീറ്റർ (560 അടി) ഉയരമുള്ള കുത്തനെയുള്ള ഒരു ക്രേറ്റർ വരമ്പിനാൽ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ടതാണ് തടാകം.[3]
