SOX10 er ein transkripsjonsfaktor i SOX-genfamilien. Han er naudsynt for utvikling av både Schwann-seller og oligodendrocyttar.[5] Han er òg naudsynt for utviklinga og vedlikehaldet av melanocyttar.[6]
SOX10 har ulike bindingssete i oligodendrocyttar og Schwann-seller. I oligodendrocyttar vekselverkar SOX10 med protein som transkripsjonsfaktorane OLIG1, OLIG2 og myelinregulerande faktor. SOX10 bunde til OLIG1 aktiverer avskrivinga av genet til basisk myelinprotein (MBP). I Schwann-seller vekselverkar SOX10 med protein som transkripsjonsfaktoren tidleg vekstresponsprotein 2.[5][7]
