The history o Chauites goes back tae 1895, when the Román Ramírez an Gamboa faimilies chuise this region tae establish their hames. They built wi palm an firth on a heich piece o laund surrounded by vegetation. While livin in this region, the first settlers were surprised by the discovery o dens o moose-like animals kent as tuza, acause o this discovery the settlers decidit tae name the place "El Tuzal". Ower time mair settlers like the Zacarías brithers an Juvencio Fuentes arrivit in the region.[1]

That wis hou life in the region developit till 1905 when General Porfirio Díaz, preses o Mexico, developit the infrastructur o the region an its offeecial destrict Tepantepec. The region grew acause the veelagers obtained guid crops in baith the rainy saison an in the dry saison. That is why the name o the region wis chyngit tae Chahuitesthat, which means wet grund. As the region continued its development, the settlers began the process required tae become an unthirlt destrict insteid o bein pairt o Tepantepec. In 1948 the Chahuites feenally became unthirlt.[1]
