Jaruco is a municipality an ceety in the Mayabeque Province o Cuba.
The toun wis foondit in 1762 unner the name San Juan Bautista de Jaruco (Ciudad Condal de San Juan Bautista de Jaruco).[4] "Ajaruco" wis the pre-Columbie Taíno name o the dounset.[5]
In 1940, the municipality wis dividit intae the barrios o Arroyo Vuelto, Casiguas, Castilla, Ciudad de Jaruco, Don Martín, Escaleras de Jaruco, Bainoa, San Antonio de Río Blanco del Norte an Santa Ana.[1]
Efter 1959 this aurie wis groupit intae the Regional San José (wi the sma municipalities o Jaruco, San Antonio-Caraballo (umwhile pairt o pre 1959 Aguacate municipality), Bainoa, etc.) Later Jaruco wis the caipital o Regional Bainoa which includit the municipalities o Jaruco, Camilo Cenfuegos, Santa Cruz del Norte, Aguacate y Madruga.
Syne 1976, the Jaruco municipality includes: Jaruco, Caraballo, San Antonio de Rio Blanco del Norte, Bainoa, Casiguas, Vista Alegre, Escaleras de Jaruco (an its bonnie pairk inside the muntains), Castilla y Tumba Cuatro.
In 2009 the Benedictines bein a Roman Catholic congregation stairtit tae erect an awn residence in Jaruco. The project failed in 2010 acause o lack o watter sae that the Benedictines remained in thair provisorial hoose in Havana (2011).
