The Valles Centrales (Inglis: Central Valleys) is a region in the hert o the state o Oaxaca, Mexico. It includes the destricts o Etla, Centro, Zaachila, Zimatlán, Ocotlán, Tlacolula an Ejutla[1]

Aften cried simply "Los Valles" bi the fowk o Oaxaca, it is a geografical an cultural region consistin o three river valleys atween the Nudo Mixteco, the Sierra Juárez an the Sierra Madre del Sur. The valleys form a kynd o Y. The northwast airm is the Etla Valley, on the east is the Tlacolula Valley an tae the sooth the Ocotlán Zimatlán or Grande Valley. The lairgest commonty in the region, an the lairgest in the state, is the ceety o Oaxaca.[1]

The fertile glen haes been settled syne prehistoric times, wi stane ruins datin back tae 600BC. Archaeological steids include Dainzú, Lambityeco, Mitla, Monte Albán (a UNESCO Warld Heritage Steid), San José Mogote, Yagul an Zaachila.[2] The region wis the cradle o the Zapotec cultur, wi its main urban centre at Monte Alban. Efter this ceety wis abandoned bi the Zapotecs, a constellation o smaw ceety-states flourished in the aurie. Towards the end o the pre-Columbie era, the region wis influencit bi the Mixtecs an later came unner the dominion o the Aztecs.[3]
