කලාභූෂණ විශාරද ෂර්ලි වෛජයන්ත ගුණසිංහ වෘත්තීයමය වශයෙන්, සිංහල ගීත ගායකයෙක්, සංගීත අධ්‍යක්ෂක වරයෙක්, සංගීත ගුරුවරයෙකි.[2] බෙල්වුඩ් සංගීත නිකේතනය ආරම්භ සාමාජිකයෙකි.[3]වසර 40කට අධික කාලයක් පුරා ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සංගීත ක්ෂේත්‍රයට ගායකයන් රැසක් දායාද කලේය.[4][5] ඔහු ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයෙකි.
ඔහු උපත ලැබුවේ කැලණිය, දළුගමය. ඔහු අධ්‍යාපනය ලැබුවේ ඉරිවැටියාව මහා විද්‍යාලයනි.[6]
During the school times, he did not focus on music. However, he became an active member in many literary activities including singing and won many prizes. Later he started to study music under Visharada P. V. Nandasiri for his Advance Level examination and finally completed his Sangeetha Visharada exam. After finishing visharada exam, Waijayantha made his first teaching appointment to Kelaniya Maha Vidyalaya. During this period, he was able to join with Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) and sang four songs for 'Sarala Gee' musical program.[6][7]
However, with an intention to become a leading singer in the country, Waijayantha felt compelled to write his own songs and tunes.[8] Then he launched his maiden cassette with the help of his friend Lionel Nawanage and his wife Sudharma Nawanage. In the album, he was lucky enough to sing two duets with renowned songstress Nanda Malini.[6] Some of his popular solo hits include:[9] ඈත සිතිජයේ, දෑසට හුරුවු, කවදාද ආයේ එන්නේ, සමාව ඉතිරිව, මං බොලද වියේ, මට එපා ඔබේ හසරැල්, මට සිහිනයක් වගේ and මල් මල් හිනා.[10] He also worked as the Leader of Youth Service Band for many years.[11]
1980 දශකයේ මුල් භාගයේ දී, ඔහු තරුණ සේවා සභාවට සම්බන්ධ වී ක්‍රියා කලේය. එහිදී ඔහුගේ මගපෙන්වීම යටතේ සංගීත ක්ෂේත්‍රයට ගායකයන් රැසක් දායාද කළේය. ඒ අතර චන්ද්‍රලේඛා පෙරේරා, සෝමසිරි මැදගෙදර and චන්ද්‍රසේන හෙට්ටිආරච්චි වේ.[12] In 2007, Waijayantha served as the Institute chief of Bellwood Aesthetic Institute, Kandy, as well as its deputy director. On 4 November 2007, he held a musical show titled 'Waijayantha Gee' at the BMICH at 6 p.m after a lapse of 20 years. During the show, he launched the album titled "Ithin Kiyanna Aadare".[6]
On 3 November 2021, he was bestowed with Kalabhooshana title at the 36th Kalabhooshana State Awards Ceremony.[13]
