Ace the Bat-Hound is a fictional superhero dog appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Bill Finger and Lew Sayre Schwartz. He first appeared in Batman #92 (1955). Ace is Batman and Robin's dog. He is a canine member of the Batman Family.
Ace was a German Shepherd dog originally owned by an engraver named John Wilker. He was found by Batman and Robin after his master was kidnapped by a gang of counterfeiters. With his master unable to fight off the kidnappers, Wilker's dog jumped to his defense. He wears a mask to hide his secret identity as Bruce Wayne's dog Ace. There have been several dogs named Ace. This is because dogs have short lifespans. In the Prime Earth, another dog named Titus appeared as the second Bat-Hound before Ace was re-introduced.
Ace has super strength and invulnerability as given by the orange Kryptonite. He can crush metal with his jaws alone, and his invulnerability allows him to survive lethal physical trauma although it still hurts him.
The first movie to use the character was the animated movie DC League of Super-Pets. It was released in the United States on July 29, 2022.
