Adam McQuaid (born October 12, 1986) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He played twelve seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played for the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, and Columbus Blue Jackets. He would win the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011.
Career
[change | change source]McQuaid played hockey in the OHL for 4 seasons with the Sudbury Wolves. He was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets with the 55th overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft but never played a game with them and was traded to the Bruins for a fifth-round pick.[1] He won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins on June 15, 2011 when the Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks in game 7 by a score of 4–0.[2] On July 14, 2011, McQuaid would sign a three-year; $4.7 million contract to stay with the Bruins.[3] In 2013, he would again help the Bruins make it to the Stanley Cup Finals where the Bruins would lose four game to two to the Chicago Blackhawks.[4] He would again stay with the Bruins, signing a four-year, $11 million contract extension contract on June 26, 2015.[5]
On September 11, 2018, the Bruins would trade McQuaid to the New York Rangers in exchange for Steven Kampfer, a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional seventh-round pick.[6]
On February 25, 2019, the Rangers traded McQuaid back to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Julius Bergman, and both a fourth and seventh round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.[7]
On January 16, 2021, McQuaid announced his retirement from playing professional ice hockey.[8]
Personal life
[change | change source]McQuaid is a Christian and would hold a bible study group when he was a member of the Bruins.[9]
