Orhad "Ady" Barkan (December 18, 1983 – November 1, 2023) was an American lawyer and progressive activist. He was the co-founder of the Be a Hero PAC and is an organizer for the Center for Popular Democracy.[1] Barkan became known when he told then-U.S. Senator Jeff Flake on a plane back in 2017 asking him to "be a hero" and vote no on the tax bill.[2]
Barkan was diagnosed with terminal ALS in 2016.[2] He had died from complications of ALS at a hospital in Santa Barbara, California at the age of 39.[3][4]
