Eugene Braunwald (born August 15, 1929) is an Austrian-born American cardiologist. He was born in Vienna, Austria. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences since 1974.
Braunwald was chief of cardiology and clinical director at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health. He was then hired to the University of California, San Diego where from 1968-1972 he was the founding Chair of the Department of Medicine.[1]
