Frank Handlen

Frank W. Handlen (September 26, 1916 – May 25, 2023) was an American artist. He was a painter, sculptor and shipwright. In a young age, he worked in Bernie Warner's shipyard on the Kennebunk River. His paintings often show ships, ocean life and the Maine landscape or coastline in oil and pastels. A 1995 sculpture by Handlen showing the early settlers of Kennebunkport sits in the town's village green. His collection of works include pastels, oil paintings and pen and ink drawing.

Handlen was born in Brooklyn, New York City. After he graduated from high school in New Jersey, he moved to Maine. He turned 100 in 2016, and 105 in 2021.[1] He died in Biddeford, Maine, on May 25, 2023.[2]
