The Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities (IATH) is a research institute at the University of Virginia in the United States. It specializes in the use of Information technology in the humanities.The institute was founded in 1992 with money donated by IBM. In 2010, the institute developed the Social Networks and Archival Context (SNAC) database. This database has authority controls for people and what other people have written about the person. The database also tells which libraries have the writings about the person. Each person in the database has their own unique number. As of 2016, the SNAC database had entries for 2.5 million people.[1][2][3]
