Jerry Pinkney (December 22, 1939 – October 20, 2021) was an American illustrator and writer of children's books. Pinkney illustrated over 100 books, beginning in 1964. He was known for his picture book John Henry.[1] He won five Coretta Scott King Awards for illustration.[2][3] In 2010, he received the Caldecott Medal for his book The Lion & the Mouse.[4]
Pinkney died of a heart attack on October 20, 2021 at the age of 81.[5]
