Kailer Yamamoto (born September 29, 1998) is an American professional ice hockey right winger. He currently plays for the Utah Hockey Club of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Edmonton Oilers and Seattle Kraken.
Before playing in the NHL, Yamamoto played parts of 3 seasons with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL). During his time with the Chiefs, Yamamoto would be named to the Western Conference Second All-Star Team.[1] On October 31, 2016, Yamamoto was named the Player of the Week in the WHL.[2]
He was drafted 22nd overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. On October 4, 2017, Yamamoto made his NHL debut in a 3–0 win against the rival Calgary Flames.[3] On October 18, 2018, Yamamoto scored his first NHL goal in a 3–2 overtime win against the Boston Bruins.[4] Yamamoto would sign a two-year, $3.1 million per year contract to stay with the Oilers on August 4, 2022.[5]
On June 29, 2023, the Oilers traded Yamamoto along with Klim Kostin to the Detroit Red Wings.[6] He would not play for them as the Red Wings would buy out his contract after putting him on waivers.[7]
On July 2, Yamamoto signed a one-year, $1.5 million to join the Seattle Kraken. By doing this, he became the first in-state player in the team's history.[8]
On October 6, 2024, Yamamoto signed a 1-year, 2-way contract to join the Utah Hockey Club.[9]
