Matthew Joseph Underhill (born September 16, 1979 in Campbell River, British Columbia) is a Canadian retired ice hockey goaltender.
Before playing hockey professionally, Underhill played in college for Cornell University for 4 years. He was drafted with the 170th overall pick in the 1999 NHL draft by the Calgary Flames. Even though he was drafted by the Flames, he did not play a game for them. The only game the Underhill played in the NHL was during the 2003–04 NHL season for the Chicago Blackhawks.
He spent most of his playing career in the AHL and ECHL. He won the ECAC’s Ken Dryden Award in 2002. He played 18 games in the AHL for the Providence Bruins, Manchester Monarchs, Norfolk Admirals and St. John's Maple Leafs. In the ECHL, he played 4 seasons with the Pee Dee Pride, Florence Pride, Mississippi Sea Wolves and Alaska Aces. He retired in 2006 after his season with the Aces.
He was inducted into the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame on November 3rd, 2012.[1]
