Modern rock is an umbrella word used to describe rock music, which is found on college rock radio stations. Some radio stations use this word to check the difference of themselves from classic rock, which is based in 1960s–1980s rock music.
Modern rock is also known as alternate radio. It is a rock format commonly discovered on commercial radio; the format has mostly of the different rock genre.
Generally, it begins with Hardcore punk but later it refers especially to alternative rock music since the 1980s. The term "modern rock" is used in the US to show the difference between the music from classic rock. It focuses on music recorded in the 1960s through to the early 1990s.
