Rubem Azevedo Alves (September 15, 1933 – July 19, 2014) was a Brazilian theologian, philosopher, academic, writer and psychoanalyst.^[1] Alves was one of the founders of liberation theology.^[2]

Alves was a Lutheran.^[3]
