பேட்ரிக் ஆலிவெல் (Patrick Olivelle ) ஒரு இந்தியவியலாளர் ஆவார். சந்நியாசம், துறவு மற்றும் தருமம் ஆகியவற்றில் கவனம் செலுத்தும் சமசுகிருத இலக்கியத்தின் தத்துவவியலாளரும் அறிஞருமான ஆலிவெல் 1991 முதல் ஆஸ்டினில் உள்ள டெக்சாஸ் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் ஆசிய ஆய்வுகள் துறையில் சமசுகிருதம் மற்றும் இந்திய மதங்களின் பேராசிரியராக இருந்து வருகிறார்.
இலங்கையில் பிறந்த இவர், 1972 இல் ஆக்சுபோர்டு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் இளங்கலைப் பட்டம் பெற்றார். அங்கு சமசுகிருதம் , பாளி மற்றும் இந்திய மதங்களை தாமசு பறோ , ஆர்.சி. சாக்னெர் ஆகியோரிடம் பயின்றார். 1974 இல் பென்சில்வேனியா பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் இருந்து இலூடோ ரோச்சரின் மேற்பார்வையில் "யாதவப் பிரகாசரின் யதிதர்மப்பிரகாச"த்தின் விமர்சனப் பதிப்பு மற்றும் மொழிபெயர்ப்பு அடங்கிய ஆய்வறிக்கையைச் சமர்ப்பித்து தனது முனைவர் பட்டம் பெற்றார். 1974 மற்றும் 1991-க்கு இடையில், புளூமிங்டனிலுள்ள இந்தியானா பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் சமய ஆய்வுகள் துறையில் கற்பித்தார்.
