วงศ์กราฟิดาซิอีนี้ เชื่อกันว่าสมาชิกทั้งหมดเกิดเป็นไลเคน มีมากกว่า 2000 สปีชีส์ในวงศ์นี้ [4] สมาชิกในวงศ์นี้ส่วนใหญ่พบในเขตร้อน[5]

สมาชิกส่วนใหญ่ของวงศ์นี้เจริญอยู่บนต้นไม้ สปีชีส์ในหลายสกุล (Diploschistes, Gymnographopsis, และ Rendonographa) เจริญบนก้อนหิน[6]
