Friedman 2 Mart 1936'da Ramat Gan, İsrail'de doğdu. Ramat-Gan Bar Ilan Üniversitesi'nde sosyoloji profesörü olarak görev yaptı.[2] Modern tarihle din ve laiklikle Yahudilik arasındaki çatışmaların dine etkisi konuları üzerinde çalıştı. Ayrıca Modern Halachic karar verme sürecini inceledi.[3]
