Amanda Manku (born 9 August 1991) is a South African actress, television presenter, sportscaster and entrepreneur best known for her role as Elizabeth “Lizzy” Thobakgale on the popular SABC1 drama series Skeem Saam.[1]

Early life

[edit]

Born in Limpopo and raised in Johannesburg, Manku discovered her passion for the media early in life. She began her television journey when she was sixteen years old as a talk show host on Soweto TV and went on to present on youth programmes such as YoTV and Matrics Uploaded. She studied motion picture at AFDA, sharpening her craft both in front of and behind the camera.[2]

Career

[edit]

Her breakthrough came in 2013 when she landed the role of Elizabeth “Lizzy” Thobakgale on Skeem Saam, a drama series that explores the lives, challenges and triumphs of South African families and youth. The role brought her widespread recognition and a loyal following.[3]

Television, Sportscasting and Business Ventures

Beyond acting, Manku has established herself as a versatile TV personality. She has worked as a sportscaster and presenter, blending her love for entertainment with sports broadcasting.[4]

In 2021 she ventured into entrepreneurship with the launch of her own fragrance line called Amascent. The brand — created with both men and women in mind — was designed not only as a personal passion project but also as a way to offer income opportunities for others.[5]

Personal life

[edit]

Manku is married to Roger Tau, and the couple have expanded their family in recent years. In mid-2025, she publicly disclosed that she was expecting her second child, a moment of hope and renewal following a period of deep sorrow.[6]

In May 2021, Amanda lost both her mother and grandmother to a fatal criminal assault, which profoundly affected her life. The case attracted widespread attention, and in later years, allegations emerged involving her father’s role in orchestrating the murders, leading to his arrest and ongoing legal proceedings. Amanda has been candid about the emotional impact of these events and her strength in navigating grief.[7][8]

In late 2025, Manku featured on a track titled Sleep Over by South African artist King Monada, fulfilling a dream her late mother had for her. The collaboration served as a heartfelt tribute to the women who shaped her life.[9][10]
