Jeung Yoon-chae (Korean: 정윤채; born December 6, 2007), also known by Western name order as Yoonchae Jeung, is a South Korean singer based in Los Angeles, California. She is best known as a member of the girl group Katseye, which debuted on June 28, 2024, under the record labels Hybe UMG and Geffen Records, as a result of the global competition reality show Dream Academy in 2023.[1]
Early life
[edit]Jeung Yoon-chae was born on December 6, 2007, in Seoul, South Korea.[2] She has an older sister who taught her how to do makeup.[3][4]
Career
[edit]2019–2023: Pre-debut
[edit]Jeung became a K-pop trainee at the age of 12.[4] She spent two years as a trainee at WakeOne, before transferring to Hybe in 2023.[2]
2023–present: Dream Academy and debut with Katseye
[edit]In 2023, Jeung was announced as one of twenty contestants in The Debut: Dream Academy, a global audition program created with the goal of forming a new international girl group.[5] In the final ranking, she placed fourth overall, securing a spot in the final lineup of what would become Katseye.[6][7][8] The group's debut single, "Debut", was released on June 28, 2024, and was subsequently included in their first extended play SIS (Soft Is Strong).[9]
Discography
[edit]As a contestant of Dream Academy, Jeung participated in the promotional release of the contestants' shared songs for competition. They were performed on November 17, 2023 and released to streaming platforms on August 21, 2024.[10]
