Juliette Atkinson giành chức vô địch khi đánh bại đương kim vô địch Elisabeth Moore 6–3, 6–3, 4–6, 3–6, 6–3 ở Vòng Thách đấu, đảo ngược kết quả của mùa giải năm trước.^[2] Atkinson giành quyền thách đấu với Moore khi đánh bại Edith Kenderdine 6–2, 6–4, 6–0 trong trận chung kết All Comers. Sự kiện diễn ra ở mặt sân cỏ ngoài trời tại Philadelphia Cricket Club ở Wissahickon Heights, Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia từ ngày 15 đến ngày 19 tháng 6 năm 1897.^[1][3][4][5]
