Love Insurance Kompany (also known by the acronym lik; /laɪk/)[4] is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language science fiction romantic comedy film written and directed by Vignesh Shivan. Jointly produced by Rowdy Pictures and Seven Screen Studio, the film is set in 2040,[4] and stars Pradeep Ranganathan, S. J. Suryah and Krithi Shetty in the lead roles. Yogi Babu, Seeman, Gouri G Kishan, Shah Ra, Malavika, Mysskin, Anandaraj and Sunil Reddy appear in supporting roles.
The film was initially announced untitled in 2019 with Sivakarthikeyan starring and Lyca Productions producing; however, it was shelved due to budget concerns. In 2023, it was revived with Pradeep. An announcement by Seven Screen Studios was made that September, and the title Love Insurance Corporation was revealed that December. Principal photography took place between January 2024 and April 2025, in locations including Coimbatore, Udumalaipettai, Singapore and Malaysia. In July 2024, the film was retitled Love Insurance Kompany, after separate copyright claims over the initialism LIC by S. S. Kumaran and the Life Insurance Corporation. The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography handled by Ravi Varman and Sathyan Sooryan, and editing by Pradeep E. Ragav.
Love Insurance Kompany was initially scheduled to be released on 18 September 2025, but has since been delayed repeatedly.

Production
[edit]Development
[edit]In late November 2018, actor Sivakarthikeyan, a long-time friend of Vignesh Shivan, was reported to come together with the latter for his next directorial, to be produced by Lyca Productions.[8] On 21 March 2019, Lyca announced the project under the tentative title SK17, referring to Sivakarthikeyan's 17th film as a lead actor and added that filming would commence in July, while the film would release in 2020.[9] However, that November, Lyca backed out of the project, reportedly because they felt the ₹70 crore (equivalent to ₹87 crore or US$10 million in 2023) budget was too high for a Sivakarthikeyan films and could not be recovered due to his still emerging market value.[10] A month later, it was reported that Vignesh would produce the film via his own company Rowdy Pictures after unsuccessful negotiations with other producers, and he would direct Sivakarthikeyan in a different project.[11] Vignesh later revealed that Lyca's concerns over the film's budget were due to its futuristic setting, and he refused their request to change it to present day.[12]
In March 2023, Pradeep Ranganathan was reported to have been approached for the lead role in the revived project.[13] Vignesh confirmed the project on his birthday, 18 September; however, neither the production company nor the cast, barring Pradeep, were revealed.[14] In December, it was revealed that the film would be produced by S. S. Lalit Kumar under Seven Screen Studio. The company officially announced the project on 14 December, under the title Love Insurance Corporation (LIC); a muhurat puja was held on the same day.[15] Vignesh and his wife Nayanthara's Rowdy Pictures was involved in co-producing the film with Kumar, for the second time after Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal.[16][17] Cinematographer Ravi Varman and editor Pradeep E. Ragav were involved as part of the technical crew.[16]
Shortly after the reveal of the title and its initialism, S. S. Kumaran issued a warning against Vignesh, stating that he had registered the LIC initialism in 2015 for a potential film (Life is Colourful). He further stated that an associate of Vignesh had approached him to give the title but was rebuffed, yet still used it.[18][19] Soon after in January 2024, the Life Insurance Corporation, which holds the trademark rights to the initialism, sent a cease and desist notice to the team, accusing them of trademark infringement and ordered them to change the title at the earliest.[20] On 25 July 2024, Pradeep's birthday, the new title Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) was announced.[21] After dance choreographer Jani Master's participation was announced in early July 2025,[22] Vignesh and Nayanthara received backlash for collaborating with Jani since he was previously convicted after being accused of sexual harassment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Nayanthara in particular received criticism for allegedly enabling Jani since she was viewed as a "self-made woman".[23] She has not openly addressed or responded to the issue.[24]
Casting
[edit]S. J. Suryah and Yogi Babu were confirmed to be part of the cast from their presence at the muhurat puja in December, while Krithi Shetty was announced as the lead actress.[25] Besides acting, both Suryah and Pradeep were involved in a 12-hour writing workshop with Vignesh.[26] The film marks Seeman's return to acting after a hiatus due to his political commitments.[27] In February 2024, a promotional skit video released by YouTuber Mohammad Rasool revealed the inclusion of himself and Shah Ra.[28] Edin Rose was cast as an artificial intelligence, in her Tamil debut.[29][30] Gouri G Kishan said she was "underconfident" when Vignesh offered her a role in the film, and that she was "pushed beyond [her] comfort zone".[31]
Filming
[edit]
Principal photography began with the first schedule on 24 January 2024 at Isha Yoga in Coimbatore.[32] Filming also took place at the Velliangiri Mountains.[33] After nine days of filming, the team then moved to Thirumoorthy Dam in Udumalaipettai by 3 February to shoot significant portions.[28] On 11 February, Suryah, through social media, stated that he had begun filming his portions.[1] The second schedule commenced on 22 March in Singapore, where Pradeep and Shetty reportedly a part of the schedule.[34] The team also moved to Malaysia for filming minor portions.[35] The schedule concluded by 26 March.[35] By July 2024, the film entered its final phase of filming, with Pradeep also simultaneously shooting for the Ashwath Marimuthu-directorial Dragon (2025).[36][37] During the film's production, Sathyan Sooryan replaced Varman as the cinematographer.[37][38] On 11 April 2025, Vignesh announced on his Instagram handle that filming in Malaysia is nearing completion, with approximately two more days left.[39] Filming wrapped on 14 April.[40]

Marketing
[edit]The film's title poster, along with the first and second look posters featuring Pradeep was released on 25 July.[45][46] This was followed by Suryah and Shetty's character posters on 27 July and 2 August.[47][48] The film's behind-the-scenes video was released on 18 September.[49] The first teaser was scheduled to release on 1 August, but was delayed to 27 August due to the audio launch of Coolie taking place around the same time.[50] After the release of the teaser on that date, The Hollywood Reporter India stated that the inclusion of the song "Enakenna Yaarum Illaye", originally composed by Anirudh for an unreleased film Aakko, "should delight fans who have been wanting to see the hit track be part of a film sometime".[51] Deepan Boopathy, the producer of Aakko, reacted positively to seeing the song "reach new audiences through this film".[52]
Release
[edit]Love Insurance Kompany was initially scheduled to release on 18 September 2025, but was postponed for undisclosed reasons.[53][54] A new date of 17 October, coinciding with Diwali, was later announced.[55][56] However, it was postponed to 18 December to avoid a clash with Pradeep's other film, Dude.[57][58] Ahead or the revised release date, journalists believed the film was likely to be further delayed, given the lack of promotional activity by the makers.[59][60] Nevertheless, the apparent postponement and lack of confirmation by the makers received criticism from the trade as it affected the possibility of several smaller Tamil films releasing in the time frame.[61] Prathyangira Cinemas, the film's North American distributor, later confirmed the delay but provided no new date,[62] while Tiruppur Subramanian of the Tamil Nadu Theatres Association claimed the makers told him they were now aiming to release the film in mid-February 2026.[63]
