Perfect Crown (Korean: 21세기 대군 부인) is an upcoming South Korean television series written by Yoo Ah-in, directed by Park Joon-hwa, and starring IU, Byeon Woo-seok, Noh Sang-hyun, and Gong Seung-yeon. The series unfolds when the second daughter of a chaebol family enter a contract marriage with the second son of the king. It is scheduled to premiere on MBC TV in the first half of 2026, and will air every Friday and Saturday. It will also be available for streaming on Disney+.
Synopsis
[edit]The series follows the story of a woman named Sung Hee-joo, who feels frustrated by her status as a commoner, even though she is a member of a conglomerate, and Prince Yi Ahn, who experiences sorrow as the king's son yet possesses nothing.

[edit]- The second daughter of a chaebol family. Although she's very rich and powerful, people often look down on her because of her status as a commoner and an illegitimate child. But she still acts very confident. She, who dreams of rising in social status through marriage, appears in front of Prince Yi Ahn and proposes to him.
- Byeon Woo-seok as Prince Yi Ahn[3]
- The second son of a royal family. His mere existence is perceived as a threat to the current king. He's being pushed to get married and is under the watchful eye of Queen Dowager Yoon Yi-rang.
- Noh Sang-hyun as Min Jeong-woo[3]
- The son from a prominent political family. He is Yi Ahn's friend.
- Gong Seung-yeon as Queen Dowager Yoon Yi-rang[3]
- A woman who comes from a family that has produced four queens. She's determined to protect her young son, so she's clearly cautious around Yi Ahn and pressures him to get married.

[edit]The series is directed by Park Joon-hwa, who previously directed Alchemy of Souls (2022–23),[5] penned by Yoo Ah-in, while MBC and Kakao Entertainment co-managed the production. The series is the won the Excellence Award at the 2022 MBC Drama Script Contest.[3][6][7]
Casting
[edit]In December 2024, IU and Byeon Woo-seok were selected to star, as announced by Kakao Entertainment.[8]
On March 28, 2025, TV Daily reported that IU and Byeon would be leaving the series, but their agencies denied the claim.[9] On the next month, Noh Sang-hyun and Gong Seung-yeon were confirmed to appear following IU and Byeon.[3] In June, Yoo Su-bin, Lee Yeon, and Chae Seo-an were reportedly cast.[4][10][11]

Release
[edit]Perfect Crown was originally slated to premiere on MBC TV in the second half of 2025, but then it was decided to air it either at the end of the year or in 2026.[8][14][15]
In April 2025, the series was confirmed to be broadcast in the first half of 2026, and air in a MBC's Friday–Saturday timeslot.[3] In November 2025, Disney+ unveiled that the series will also be available to stream on their platform.[1]
