Adding HINLA as an Early Multi-Game Esports League

[edit]

Hello editors,

I’d like to suggest adding the Croatian Informatics Competitions League (HINLA) to the "Growth and online video games (1990–1999)" section.

According to former players' comments, HINLA started in 1995 by playing team multi-game matches in playrooms. Officially, on March 1, 1997, it launched as one of the earliest multi-game esports leagues, featuring team-based competitions in cinema venues with games like Quake2, StarCraft, Warcraft 2, Duke Nukem 3D, and C&C: Red Alert. This predates the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL), which began in June 1997. Evidence includes comments sections from netokracija.com and forum.hr, a 1997 official web page scan (mentioning organizer, start date, place, and rules), a 1997 event poster (Cinema/Arena Venue - Kustosija, Zagreb, April 12), a 1998 grand finale (Cinema/Arena Venue, Live Commentary, Prizes, sponsorship - SC, Zagreb, December 19) listing multiple games, and coverage in Hacker magazine.

Could editors consider including HINLA as an early European example of organized multi-game esports?
