Oh Susanna" and "Old Uncle Ned" were published in 1848, and almost as soon as the music was made available by C. Holt, Jr., and Millets Music Saloon (respectively), the sheet music was pirated by other publishers in Cincinnati, Louisville, Baltimore, New York, Philly, and Boston. As a result, Foster earned almost nothing from the sale of his very popular pieces.
